Weird looping audio issue

I'm currently have an odd issue with FCP on a MBP (3,1) that I just got used. I've been using it for a little while with Pro Tools just fine, but recently started using FCP 7. The issue that comes up is that whenever I pause the video, the last frame's worth of audio starts looping through the audio output.

Obviously this gets very annoying. If I play and pause the video in the blank section of the timeline this goes away most of the time, but occasionally even that doesn't fix it. In all cases shutting down FCP doesn't solve the issue, and the only way to stop the audio is shutting down the Mac.

Any suggestions?

Is the resulting sound coming through like a really harsh buzz?

If so then I have noticed it too on FCP7 on an iMac with snow loeopard. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does restarting FCP has solved it, I have never had to restart the mac.

My on site/on set mac is a laptop with leopard FCP6 and that has never seen this error.
