Weird aspect ratio problem...

My sequence is playing back surrounded by black bars ... It was shot in 16:9 squeeze mode, and has always been working fine before this.

I shot 24pA, captured/edited and output back to miniDV for color correcting, - everything was perfect, then I captured the mini-DV with the new corrected footage back into the computer and it is playing back in the canvas and timeline window in a tiny square.

It's not zoomed back as I never touched the zoom, and I tested it out and burned it to DVD - and it too played back in a small box surrounded by black.

what did I or am I doing wrong?
thanks

That seems like your sequence settings are wrong. Specifically they are set to some HD frame size. But your footage is SD of course. So hence a small little box w/ image surrounded all around by black. Good luck.

cheers.

ah, perhaps. .... should the aspect ratio in the settings be 3:2 or 4:3 ?

(well, I may have one of those numbers wrong, but I know you guys know what I meant)

It was the smaller one incase that helps (3:2 ...or is it 2:3? I forget)

...I changed it, and the black got less - but not gone...it's like it has bars on the edges and the top and bottom.

Where in the settings would I find whatever could be the cause/solution to this?

capture presets? sequence?

Go to the Sequence Settings for the sequence being affected. At the top, it says Frame Size and Pixel Aspect Ratio. I believe you'd want NTSC 4:3 and then NTSC CCIR 601 for the PAR. Am trying to get my foot out the door here, so a little under the gun. A quick way to confirm is to make a new sequence, go to the sequence settings, then hit the load sequence preset button and chose the DV NTSC option. Then you'll see all the values you need for your actual editing sequence. Good luck.

cheers.
