Weight of fully decked out DVX100 ?

I know I read a post a while back of how much their camera weighed with matte box, follow fucus, 2 filters, microphone, rod supports, add on lens, etc. but I can not find it.

I am shopping for a Sachtler tripod and wondering if the total weight will be under 13 pounds. Anybody want to help me out?

Re: Weight of fully decked out DVX100 ?

The camera itself is just over 4 pounds. I would bet that by the time you got it fully tricked out it'd still be under 8 pounds. You should certainly be good to go with a head that's rated for 13 pounds.

I was just having a little fun  :-[

Barry is correct. Matteboxes vary by size and weight (which strangely dont seem cost related). 6 Pounds of Mattebox and other accessories seems hard to do.

DV 4 and DV 6. Strange that Sachtler website rates the DV 4 at 16 pound payload and the DV 6 at only 13 but almost every dealer I have talked to says that the opposite is true.

I will probably just go with the DV 4. Those Sachtlers are so smooooooth.

Won't a DV1 be enough?

I mean, if the tripod can't hold a DVX, what is it supposed to hold?

Hey Monster,

I'm in the same boat now myself..wondering what head to buy based on camera weight. I'm leaning towards the Manfrotto 503...most people are telling me that will be ok. The head is rated for 13lb. I think at most the camera load should be 10lb fully rigged.

Would love to get a Sachtler..but alas no money...

Re: Weight of fully decked out DVX100 ?

Call me stupid, but if one overloads the rating for a particular head (say puts 20lbs on a head rated at 13, etc)... is it a) just going to affect the performance or b) going to royally screw up the head for good? This seems like a stupid question, but I've never done it. Any experiences with blowing a fluid seal or anything? :)

Re: Weight of fully decked out DVX100 ?

we have a 501 which we use with BetaSP cams. they are way too heavy but we use it for mini-units with 1-2 men on mountain events when wait is a factor.

it works and this tripod had about 50 days with temperatures below 0°C (around -20F) sometimes even around -20°C and snowfall etc.
it worked always and even the pans come out ok. it is not a sachtler with 200mm head, but if there is no budget for it..... ;)

so yes it works and the head should be fine, but if you can afford it always go with the biggest possible.

Re: Weight of fully decked out DVX100 ?

well maybe this helps, I mounted right now a dvx100a at home with a 35mm ps technick adaptor, 100mm zeiss lens w follow focus for it, 4x4 mattebox, with 1 filter in it and it weights 19lbs...

I dont think it can get much heavier then that.. but its a hardcore setup too :)

Re: Weight of fully decked out DVX100 ?

what head/sticks are you mounting it on?

Re: Weight of fully decked out DVX100 ?

we renter a 100mm bowl sachtler video 18 head.. but that thing can even handle a jibarm with its weight
