Wedding Videography question

James--If I've got the day free I'd be happy to shoot for you. I'd work for a bargain price, leaving you enough to rent the 10K's, crane, and smoke machines I'll require. Seriously, PM me if you're interested or I can also recommend some sources for local shooters.
Yeah - Barry and I are a team right?

Didn't realize you were near DC. You could probably have a small army of dvxusers shooting the big day.

Oh yeah, definitely Jerry! We got you covered, Barnes. Just keep the bridesmaids away from the dolly tracks and we'll be cool.

What about me? I'll do it.
Heck, I almost like shooting better anyway... post takes too long :)

Look at the responses I got on this. Again, I'm impressed!

Barry, Jerry...obviously I'll keep this in mind. My idea, and this will be further refined as times goes on, was to hire documentary-style shooters for the day and have a 3 camera shoot. If I edit my own material, I can afford to pay three shooters quite well and possibly rent additional equipment as needed.

I'm really looking at this as a more effective way to spend the budget then I am looking at it as a way to save money.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for their opinions. You've been very helpful.

Doc-style is cool. I like that more than going for the overly-sentimentalized "dream sequence" style. Doc style, but warm, funny, and interesting. Three cameras would defilitely give you great coverage, although depending on the size of the wedding might be a little intrusive. How big is the wedding?

Right now the wedding is in the basic planning stages. We're looking at the where and the who currently, but it might end up being around 100-130 people.

I hate the thought of people spending 2-5k on a corny video full of star wipes and disolves. It just results in a tape that's a burden to watch, thus it ends up in the back of a drawer.

I would like to make a video that is actually funny and makes fun of the guests as much as humanly possible. I've been told that I have a very strong talent for making documentary footage funny, so I'd like to play to that strength as much as I'm able.

Of course, we intend for open bar...so that should increase the potential for humor. The last few weddings I went to were a MESS...in a good way.

Also, I could possibly convince the honey to spend part of the wedding budget on editing system upgrades and reap the rewards for later. Either way, no matter who I get to shoot for me, I'd like to produce a product that everyone can get a kick out of and maybe wind up with a repeat viewing or two in spite of the fact that it's a wedding video.

Obviously, this is still months and months away.
