Another option you can try is to crop the offending clips top and bottom (will cut out date) and overlay that on-top of the same clip. But on this bottom clip- stretch it vertically. This will also remove the date. Color correct it to match the mood or some color that stands out in the scene and throw a blur and some black lines on it so it stands out as a background and not some weird video effect. Then dice up these bottom clips, different colors, may a horizontal flip or two so it doesnt get boring. Or a combination of these and black LB.
Just a suggestion as many average viewers have the wrong idea about letterboxing and don't see it as "Cinematic": they see it as their TV getting cheated. Send a still frame of some options to the couple, but dont tell them its beucase you are trying to fix something, tell they you are upgrading thier video with some effects (on the house because you like them )
If you do letterbox it, consider processing your footage with Vegas or dvfilmmaker, the 24p cadance will lend itself well to LB. Hope this helps!
that may work as well. I think your right that alot of people dont think they like the lettrbox. i was watching some of the footage last night and some really great composition is going to be destroyed by letter boxing. We as someone said earlier, i wont ever make that mistake again
do not add a bug, no one wants to see a stationary logo of a production company during their wedding. Anamorphic should be the way to go, did that once with an interview I did and it worked out very well though the render time will get you.
A letter box will be your best option. The only other thing would be to use 'Shake' and rotoscope the date frame by frame. Use a letter box, man. Haha. There are great preset ratios is the 'Final Cut Pro' letter box filters
