Wedding Video Format???

I agree. I feel Panasonic has done a poor job with the HVX on the business side. Personally, I don't even consider the camera 'released' because you can't really call up and buy it anywhere...and 8GB P2 cards...yeah.

Im in the market to purchase, and have been researching the XL H1 quite a bit. I must say the EOS 1D has not let me down so far. I think any project where I might be concerned about HDV quality, would have a controlled environment and a deck w/ SDI would not be an issue considering all the other equipment striking. HDV should work out great for the weddings. Heck, I still see s-vhs people from time to time. Losing the variable frame rates is a little disapointing, but if Panasonic can't deliver, then they can't deliver.

Well, its hard to say. I'm not saying the camera isn't capable of some amazing results. In fact, I have a buddy who is VERY well versed with the DVX and got his HVX 2 months ago. He said the HVX SD footage blew him away. But, I've also read that the images of the JVC HD100 were surprisingly outstanding and blew away even the most devout DVXusers. So, to me, there is no clear winner.

I understand what you are saying Slimothy, but to me 'not being available' is not synonymous with 'being bought up.' I just think they planned the launch date prematurely and are having a hard time getting the HVXs where they need to go. Plus it concerns me that they had to keep pushing the release date back.

Over the months, I have read so many amazing testimonies for the DVX. I agree with them all. I own two. They are phenomenal cameras. But, I haven't read too many gushing stories about the HVX. All I keep hearing about is how hard it is to light, how difficult it is to focus, and how much noise it produces.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are many who LOVE their HVX. What unnerves me though is that proportionally, the unparalleled enthusiasm for the DVX seems to have noticeably fallen off towards the HVX.

However, I will say that I've NEVER seen uncompressed HVX footage. I am not saying one way or the other whether or not the HVX is the best in its class. It might be. I'm just saying that in terms of rolling out the HVX and marketing strategy, I think Panasonic screwed the pooch on this one.

I get what you're saying and I shared the same concerns of the (apparent) lack of enthusiasm over the HVX. But I think the DVX took everybody by surprise whereas the HVX has SOOOO much to live up to. People think tha since it doesn't give them blow jobs that it's not "living up" to it's name. Have you seen the clip of the snow that was posted on dvinfo.net? Absolutely amazing. I'll try and dig it up.

Tim.
