See a lawyer in your local area. Laws are very dependent on location. Sure it'll cost a couple of bucks but it'll prove invaluable in the long run. Anything you get for free online is worth every penny you've paid for it! <grin>

Hi Mpayne,

Actually, I have a slightly different opinion than Steve. Sure, a lawyer will take care of mainstream issues like liability and indemnification, contract enforcement, boiler plate terms like Force Majure, Entire Agreement, Enforceability, Late Payment Fees, arbitration clauses and jurisdiction, and the like.

But don't expect them to be knowledgeable about industry issues like calling booking fees a non-refundable deposits (versus the proper booking fee terminology), address copyright issues, lighting disclaimer (degraded night video without adequate lighting), media formats and fitness for use (longevity), detailed description of services, emergeny release clause (should something happen to you, describing your backup plan), etc, etc.

If you look at PVA websites and follow the links to their member's websites, you'll find a few online contracts that should help you. And there are a few professional videographers that offer illustrative contracts which I've used to model mine.

If you'd like to acquire a copy of my contract which I've invested considerable time and effort, please PM me and we'll make arrangements. Incidentally, if you're seriously getting into the PVA trade, I suggest you frequent the specialized online groups where folks in that field hang out.

Good luck, Michael

Good points, moonlit. On reflection even an entertainment industry specialist might not be all that familiar with the issues surrounding retail video contracts such as for wedding and event videography. But after our OP has done his homework I'd still suggest he pay a lawyer or paralegal to draw up the final document rather than attempting to DIY.

I was in the same boat. I went to google and search wedding video contracts. I had found 15 contracts that had what i was looking for. Then after reviewing all these contracts I picked diffenents parts from each one and created my own. Im sure there might be something im missing, but for now it gives me something to work with.

There are more than enough online templates to choose from that ya dont have to write a 50 dolla check to your atty for one.
You will alter it to your liking anyway.
