So I'm filming this couple's wedding on the weekend, and for the first half of the ceremony, I'm silently cursing the tripod which has been traditionally a good friend. Now, it's squeaking and causing all kinds of picture judder as I'm filming. Then, as they say "I do", I realize the frigging OIS is off. Ugh!

The footage is unusable? You didn't have a second miniDV (a cheapo) camera setup to record a different angle, for b-roll or back-up? Oh well, the "I do" isn't the most important part. They'll regret saying it in the future anyway :)

Sorry that happened and good luck! I'm sure it's not as bad as you think.

Well... if you got good audio I think a few of us here can help with the rest. Just send us an mp3 of the sound and we can recreate the entire wedding using eggs. I doubt anyone will notice the cheat as they are certain to be delighted by such an entertaining wedding video. At least until the canines are unleashed during the reception.

can you rephrase the problem? sorry, I was having a hard time understanding what..

your picture is not steady? it can be helped.

I think he's upset b/c a lot of the shaky problems may have been circumvented if the image stabilizer had been active... but it sounds to me like a cheap-o plastic tripod is to blame.

I believe Avid has a built-in fix... I remember seeing something on a ProMax demo DVD once where they removed jitter from a shaky shot of a car. That's probably so vague as to be unhelpful, so just refer to above post.

You might be able to download a demo or purchase the Steady Move plug-in for Premiere and After Effects.

The results are impressive and it might solve your tripod/OIS problems.

Good luck!

The feature limited version comes with Premiere Pro 1.5. And yes, it does an awesome job.

It's been a while since I've used it, but I believe AE has some sort of motion compensation tool built in. I remember that I used it on one shot, and it worked really well.

fixitinpost should know what he's talking about. His Momma wouldn't have named him "Fix-It-In-Post" if it weren't true! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Image Stabilizer supposed to be off when you are on tripod?

It says that in every camera manual I've ever read.

So true.

4 Year old Me: "Mommy, why did you name me Fix-it-in-Post?"
Mom: "Well, you were dropped on your head, and we had to have you fixed in post."
4 Year old Me: "Is that why my eyes glow red?"
Mom: "No, we had that rotoscoped in 3 years ago."

You guys rock. The footage is usable, I was just having a gripe. I'll definitely look in to the solutions you mentioned. Basically I was filming in 60i, but the OIS was off from when I was filming so much 24p. Once I switched on the OIS it steadied out nicely.

Yeah, we did have a second camera running, a GL2. Mind you my partner was in charge of that, and I'm not sure of the quality of the footage yet.....ack!!!
