Wedding Crashers

So I went to the movies for the first time in a while and I've gotta say I actually enjoyed this one.

Best new line: Shut your mouth when you're talking to me!

Great movie, went to see it last night with the wife. We both laughed our asses off. Vaughn has to be the funniest dialogue actor working today. Wish they would have used Walken more though.

Best rom com ever.

sooo funny. When I first saw a trailer of this a long time ago, thought it would suck ass.

but I really enjoyed it and actually laughed out loud, which I haven't done in a movie for a long time.

This is another one of those movies where I had a real slightly schizo experience. I went to the movie, noticed that there was a quite a bit of baggage, but laughed, and generally had a good time, and would recommend it, but then...

I got home, and read the reviews (I -never- read a review before a movie, it'd be like telling a girl on your first date "yeah my ex thought I was a raving egomaniac." even if you werent' a raving egomaniac, she's gonna see it now. Why predispose?) and discovered that I agreed with 90% of what was being said. Both reviews = 2 stars (maybe one was 2.5)

Case you were curious my two fav reviewers: James Berardinelli / Roger Ebert. Berardinelli is basically like Ebert with a slightly younger sensibility, and without the weird sci-fi blinders that Ebert seems to have. His ability to gauge a sci-fi movie is so hit or miss, I don't know if it's just a genre that he doesn't dig inherently (or one that I, personally, do) but I highly recommend checking out both of them. Ebert is like a weekly story/plot screenwriting seminar. Mr. Cranky is also worth the price of admission.

ANYWAY, I don't know what my point is. I guess I'm starting to accept more and more that there are movies that are for people, and movies that are for critics, and while there are some that are for both, I just think that a movie that appeals to someone who watches 5-6 movies a WEEK on a screen might be different from someone who goes once a month, and might -have- to be different. Nothing profound about this I know, but it's just sort of sobering, y'know?

As John Hudson said about a different genre, I'll second the sentiment here: it was about time for an R rated comedy.

M.

p.s. Yeah, Vince Vaughn's timing and delivery are at Jordan levels. I'm a little biased, I think he's been this good since Swingers, but I wonder why this movie didn't come right after Swingers. Or what it would've meant if it had?

I saw it last night and will echo the "schizo" reaction. The concept is great and there are several memorable moments. I enjoyed watching Rachel McAdams (who doesn't?) and Vince Vaughn is likable. Will Ferrell's cameo was a lot of fun. Walken is always entertaining. So what went wrong?

There were many elements of the movie I didn't buy....like most of the relationships between characters, the ending in the church. At a certain point the movie lost me, and didn't get me back. I was expecting an exploration of the wedding crashing concept, and instead got Meet the Parents combined with The Notebook. I agree with Ebert that the movie could lose 15 minutes and have a new ending, and would be much improved.

Afterwards, my girlfriend wisely surmised, "You were expecting too much. With that kind of movie, you need to just relax and enjoy it for what it is." She's probably right.

The active ingredient in Visine eye drops is Tetrahydrozoline HCl 0.05%. Swallowing this substance can result in a number of nasty effects, including:
  •
[*] Lowering body temperature to dangerous levels
[*] Making breathing difficult, or even halting it entirely
    [*] Blurring vision
    [*] Causing nausea and vomiting
[*] Elevating and then dropping blood pressure
    [*] Causing seizures or tremors
[*] Sending the ingester into a coma

Loved it - One of my favorite comedies in years. This and 40 Year Old Virgin

I totally agree. I'd even go as far as to say that this and 40 Year Old Virgin are 2 of my favorite comedies of all time. They're not high on the list but they're on there. The deleted scene with Walken and Wilson talking about why the manservant eats so much cookies was great. Walken's line about the servant smoking weed and getting the munchies was great!

I didn't catch this in theatres and everybody I asked said it was "the funniest movie in a long time", "Way better than OLD Skool", "just as funny as Dumb and DUMBER". I rented it was out and I fell asleep. The first act is kinda funny but everything after they get to the mansion is BORING. I thought it was quite possibly the most overrated movie I've ever seen. There was only like 5 seconds of actual crashing!!! Vince and Owen do a good job together and some of it was funny, but overall the chi chis were the best part.

Well, as you know, a movie experience can sometimes be dependent upon where and when you see it. I saw this movie in the theaters twice. The first time it was a busy Friday night to a packed theater (I have not seen a great movie in a packed theater in years...it really makes it a much better experience) and it was hysterical. Laughter is infectious. So, the whole movie was a riot. And in that experience, Vince Vaugh stole the show.

Then, I saw the movie in a drive-in. Again, it was very busy. But the laughter isn't as contained. It was still very funny but for some reason, the general vibe was that the audience was digging Owen Wilson, and that rubbed off on my too. Audience participation can definitely be a very weird dynamic.

Slim-I bet if you watched that movie again with 20 alpha males, you'd probably be in stitches.

PS Where the HELL is spell check???

ok i heard one of the dumbest things i have ever heard come out of richard roeper's mouth last night. he said that vaughn and mcadams should get an academy award nomination for their work in this movie.... i dont agree with those picks but i do agree with him when he asked "why is it that we can award movies that make us cry but not movies that make us laugh? its hard to make people laugh out loud, a lot harder than people want to think and the work shouldn't go unnoticed."

ravinsedge, please dont think less of me but i said that same thing about vaughn when i first saw this movie. his performance was on par with marisa tomei in "My Cousin Vinny". so, i think he should at least be considered.
