I know that getting your ideas out there is the biggest part of this industry. And i was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to make a website so i CAN get my stuff out there. I have done blogs before, but i really don't like them. So i was wondering if you guys could help me out. Where should i start? What host should i go through? Any help would be great! Thanks!

I want to make this sort of a site for me and my work and maybe use it in a company one day showing my reels and short films that i have done.

for hosting i use www.godaddy.com and pay like $7 a month for hosting support. they also have a $5 a month package which is fine too. i dont get any downtime and they have 24/7 tech support. there's probably tons more out there.

to get a website is pretty easy too. pay a designer, use a website template, learn to create websites yourself. there's tons of free online tutorials or you can pay to get more in depth online video tutorials at www.lynda.com i have a subscription with them because i have so much software and new stuff is coming out all the time so i need to be on top of my game.

Those are really nice websites!

Filmboy, I was wondering if you used godaddy for this website as well: http://www.jamescarveronline.com/

Also I wanted to know can you do things with godaddy like that where you opened the windows to a scene outside and to a camera etc?

Also i found those tabs were really nice! Is that possible to? Or is this all seperate software?

oh yea dude, godaddy just hosts my site though, all the design and animation was done through photoshop and flash. the workflow is basically i design a nice layout in photoshop, import it into flash, then animate individual layers of the deisign to how i see fit.

to be honest, if you have great video production work, the website can just be basic. i just happened to have a background in design. i work for an ad agency as my day job. but also like i said, you can buy predesigned website templates.

i used to sell website templates for $$$ back in the day. great way to get extra cash. nice side hustle too. :)

Keep in mind a lot of web hosting companies don't offer streaming at the lower packages....goaddy is one of them (that's who I host with).

GoDaddy Help said:
Do Your Hosting Accounts Support Streaming Video?
No, we do not support streaming video.

So, with godaddy, if you don't want to irk your site visitors...you're almost limited to Windows Media (streams by default, no special server required) or Flash. There are other places that offer streaming (even for quicktime) in the same price range (Omnis for example).

yep thats true i have godaddy also, but then unless your showing 20 and 30 minute clips of video why would i need to stream video anyway.

i've got 4 short films on my site, about 10 to 15 mins long and most people dont mind waiting a coupla minutes for them to download... most people have dsl, cable or watch it during the day at work where there's normally a T1 connection....and i've found that a lot more people have flash than quicktime anyway.
