Website redesigned

So I finally got around to updating my website, let me know what you guys think. T his is actually the 5th version of my website, each time instead of just updating it I normally just redesign the whole thing. I really wanted something simple and straight forward.

I like a clean/lean design, but this might be a little too simple. It's a bit bland.

Also the load time on the photography page is brutal. It took almost a minute and I am on a T3 at work.

On the plus side, your actual work (photography and cinematography) is excellent.

I hope that helps,

Chris

hmmm, I'll have to see if I can make that load time a little faster. Im' not too web design savvy, all I really know is flash, and not that well at that. maybe if I split it up into sections, then each section will have it's own load time.

How long in general is it taking everyone to load the photo section, just so I have a reference.

Photos took me about 5 sec (feels like a minute on my extreme DSL though). I like the simple look of the site. You have some great photos... right up my alley! Flashy and busy sites drive me crazy. I just want the goods. The show should be in the content. Yours looks fine to me.

Nice clean site and great content. my only suggestion is to get it to load faster. Look into Flash8 for streaming video its the best. Maybe a nice flash gallery too.

Great stuff, A few things I would do (just my thoughts only):

(1) Offer a non flash version, not everyone, has/wants to see flash, something like in the main page, you could have two "Enter" links one to flash version and one to HTML

(2) [OPTIONAL EXTRA NERD POINTS] Try your hand at some PHP coding to get your page to dynamically change to fit screen size of clients browsers (this can be doen right? I'm learning PHP and MySQL at the mo)

Anhar, i would love to do both of those things, but I'm a bit limited in my skills. I do know how to make the page fit to the screen size, but I don't like to do that because it will sometimes scale the page larger than 100% and degrade the images.
I would also do a non flash version, but I am lost in html land.
what I am thinking of doing to make the page load faster is to make all of the images much more compressed, but also make them clickable to load a much higher res version of the image. Does that seem like a user friendly way to go?

Cool I'll check those out mediamogul. J, do you have flash installed? I actually need to put up an html splash page that allows you to download it if you don't have it. I had it on my old page, now I just have to do it for this one.

Yes, what you could do is have the thumb nails, and underneath it have two buttons/links, call them something like [Low] and [High] that way when they click on the low, they get a scaled down picture, and if they click on high you get the picture!

I used html/php for my site: snodart.com. There are some photo galleries and video clips there. The content is similar to yours for the most part.
I started to go with flash but decided to learn to hand code it all since I had read that it makes for better browser compatability. I don't recommend this route if you don't have the time to learn it all. But... if you have a little html knowledge, you might consider it. There are html templates floating around as well that you can use. You just need some basic html to add your specific images and such into the code. At any rate, your site looks great to me as it is. Just the load time of the photos seems to be the only issue.

Flash is installed, but I forget if 6 or 7 is the current version, definitely not 8 yet. What I've noticed on lots of flash pages is they either don't analyze the version or don't do the right thing with the info when they get it. I'm probably your worst customer :Drogar-Evil(DBG):
