Website Questions

Ok..Iam new to this web site stuff so don't be harsh on your replies.
Iam going to go with Pow Web for my web host which was recommended through several folks that I have spoken to.
I created a front page which I think looks nice and was done in Publisher. If I want to have some sample clips that you can click on to watch, how is this done? I have noticed on the forum that when I select clips from other users to watch they sometimes come up in my Windows media player or they just start playing from out of thin air on my screen. See, Told ya I didnt know much about how this stuff works. Since my clips are in a AVI format from editing in Vegas5, Iam sure that they will need to be compress before I upload them to my web site.
Correct? Can Vegas compress the clip or do I need some other type of software? Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Re: Website Questions

Vegas will do it for you, nicely. Experiment with it, but a good place to start would be encoding in either Windows Media 9 format or MPEG-4 using the Sorensen 3 codec.

Re: Website Questions

David,
Are you saying that Vegas will let me compress to a windows media file that can be upload to my site? Also, still working on the site and I think am going with Pow Web for hosting.

Re: Website Questions

Why? The filesize/quality ratio of WM9 blows QT out of the water any day, any time. Quicker upload. Quicker download. And the option of 5.1 surround.

Re: Website Questions

I conquer.. WMV9 kills quicktime in every aspect, as well WMV HD is pretty impressive, except alot of Apple people refuse to use WMV... so chances are more people can watch a quicktime.

Re: Website Questions

Well-said, Jarred. But stubbornness on the part the hardcore Apple folks isn't my problem, it's theirs . . . ;)

Re: Website Questions

Sorry, but Quicktime plays on my Linux box, other people's Macs, and on Windows. And my experience has been that Quicktime files stream better than WMV files.

Re: Website Questions

This code will put the movie in an HTML doc so it plays in the browser
Make the width and height so it matches your movie.

<body>
<embed src="path or url of movie" width="387" height="229"></embed>
</body>
</html>

Re: Website Questions

Yeah guys WMV kicks ass...not for the internet though...they don't stream as well..on my PC or Mac...but MOV files on the other hand have always streamed fast and very well..

Re: Website Questions

Windows Media has been about as buggy as Real Video, for me. You click the link, wait for the buffer, lose interest and remember that you need to check something on DVXUser, then forget what the hell your were about to watch.
Take a look at your favorite sites that have a lot of media on them. Are you happy with what they're using/how they're using it? Use that.
The Mac vs PC debate will always be here.
