we are about to launch the new website.
i would like to have clips on it of course, but i do not want everyone to be able to save them off the browser-cache. is there a way for that? i tried Flash so far, but the flv-can be downloaded easily.

if i can only do it via a streaming-server: does anyone know a affordable one? the cheap one´s I saw only offered like 15 - 30GB monthly and that might not be enough and create a large bill lateron....

I looked into this a while back and found that if you use Flash streaming video you can prevent the download of the video. However the cost for this service started at $300/month and only went up from there.. http://www.vitalstream.com

Unless you "don't" need 100% protection then you can do what I did on my site. I'm building a dynamic ASX file (for windows media) for each video which in turn hides the location of the video and prevents the user from downloading it directly. However a savvy user can just pull the video from their browser's cache...

You might want to also do a search on java players, but that is something I didn't look into because I was happy with the dynamic asx file.

edit = Sorry that was suppose to be "Unless you don't need"..

Whatever solution you find, people could grab them. Streaming or not.

but for example a flv file, you need to have something that can play them natively.

Also if it is very near impossible to dl the file, well there is the 30fps screen capture. Or the directshow capture.

So just get a solution that is the most complicated, and mostly no one will download it.

OH, and there is a way to tell flash to NO-CACHE. We do it all the time over here. But someone could still hack and find the filename and download it. But... Anyway

We might beable to help you at www.streamtheworld.com. Contact them and tell them Marc Olivier sent you.

I could set you something on my server, but ofcourse bandwidth is not free... (I wish it was)

If you can see it, you can capture it! If you can hear it, you can capture it. Its called D/A and A/D conversion.

You might want to watermark your streams however, so you'll at least get some level of recognition.
