ok, i'm looking for feedback on best settings, method for implementing powerpoint documents into your video work (dvd) that will also be featured on clients web page.

here is what happened.. few months back i completed a business video for a client who wanted a video produced for dvd play back. We shot two video's. One for internal employees and a second for external clients. Both videos had powerpoint slides that were included in the video. As the speaker spoke on camera he spoke to data referenced on the powerpoint slides. The powerpoint slides where to be added into the video as inserts, in and out, each time roughly displayed for 6-10 seconds based on the speakers talking points. There was not a problem on the DVD's.

I was later asked if i could produce a WEB video of the same DVD product for clients web page. I provided the following. see screen shots. The text is not readable! Im not surprised and my guess is that the culprit is the amount of data on one powerpoint in addition to the size of the text as well. Am i right? I produced the video in the manner i was told in compliance with their legal dept review and instructions that nothing could be changed on the powerpoint slides and i mean the text font, size, splitting the powerpoint slides into 2 slides to make the words more readable. Again the DVD came out great, not a problem. But as you can see in the screen shots below the text is hard ot read.

I'd like to hear back from you guys on how you would approach this issue, is there a possible fix? How would you approach this next time around so that the text is readable when displayed on the web and with the amount of information your told you must have listed on one slide.

I need your feedback. Much appreciated!!

You are correct. The small fonts and data just won't work on a small web video.

I would see about making a 720x480 web video. If it's larger you should be able to read the text. The balance between quality and file size will be a tough one though, depending on length.

Perhaps you could run a loop of the powerpoint of a large size, and have the video (edit out the slides) smaller, next to it?

Next time? Tell the client to pick target end format, and have them understand that not everything translates well. (powerpoint to video to web etc) PP's are typical for large presentations, not 360x240 web videos.

appreciate the feedback and thanks for assuring me that my thoughts on why its not readable or fixable for that matter is on track.

So, if they want another video produced both DVD and WEB. How would you approach your client regarding the web video. I don't have a problem with the DVD portion but how would you make this work for a web video in your opinion and experience? Ah, forgot to mention that they have limited space on their server for videos like this and have requested it be kept to the size listed on the screen shots above. I know this is their problem and not mine but should they agree to the size listed ( 534x300 or 450x252 ) then what, how do you make the text readable?

thanks again for the feedback.. keep them coming.

I think it needs to be made clear to them that at 534x300, a typical power point slide will not be readable. End of story. Advise them to have slides with large text if one of their goals is to have it on the web at a later point. Show them examples if possible.

Good luck!
