..hey , im no website making guru like KAI, but my mother wote me with a business proposal , and has offered to let me make her website for her..she writes books. ive made a few before by using easy graphical portion of programs like older versions of dreamweaver. anyway ill be using the latest version of dreamweaver, and she would like to have a shopping cart set up for selling apx 20 or so different items. anyone have any info on what it takes to set up a shopping cart.. can i do it through dreamweaver without ANY scripting and have then pay by credit card..? cause i dont know any scripting at all ..and dont want to tell her that i can do it if im going to be thrashing about wildly like a moron trying to figure it out.. i learn things almost instantaneously, but arent up for learning all there is to web site design just to do this. ive got films to make.. any help would be great :)

Re: web site help

I'd probably agree on the PayPal route for now at least. Dealing with merchant accounts, gateway fees, transaction fees, secure transactions, etc is a big pain. Especially if you're only selling a few select items. Paypal doesn't always have to look cheezy either, you can modify the cart with your own graphics, etc. It also runs on their server, so you don't have to mess with installing and maintaining a bunch of server-side script, databases, etc on your end. And thanks for the compliment :)

Re: web site help

thanks for the info guys

..i thought about going the paypal route, since it seemed to be the simplest (i use it myself), but i dont know how to set up a shopping cart with them, or set it up so that when you click on some item, it goes into the cart, and prefills the info and all. does paypal have a place/literature where i could just read up on how to make it work, and do it easily without scripting using the new version of dreamweaver? lol, its got to be easy enough if all the ebay people can do it..  i wish i wasnt such an amature at web design, i probably sound like an idiot asking such a dumb question, but shes offering me good money instead of doing it through someone else and paying the same amount, so i figure its worth learning how to make a shopping cart. i can do the graphics and video, and timeline based behaviors, and all that easy stuff which is all she really wants..

thanks again for your help guys    ..ill see what i can find. im sure i can figure it out with a little research. ..i may have to come back and leech some solid  pro advice again though.  ;)

edit: i checked the paypal website.. seems straight forward enough. cool . i think i should be able to do it all without too much trouble . theres even a set of extension you can load right into dreamweaver, and set up the cart options as behaviors to attach to any object :)
