Web person wants .mov instead of .mp4...

So I encoded in Vegas using .mp4 MainConcept codec. It looks great and is a quite small file size.

The web person for this company I'm working for now wants .mov??? They say they're getting errors when trying to export for web streaming. I believe they are embedding on the site with the quicktime player (bad choice imo).

Now my problem is two fold, I want the quality to be great. I don't understand why mp4 won't work, as I upload to youtube with mp4 all the time and the quality is fantastic. When I try to encode with .mov the best I can do is h.263, which I know is not as good. (Well there are others but I've never heard of em, like Sorenson?)

Secondly, it seems that when I try to use h.263 and hit the Audio tab, Vegas crashes on me... I'm using Win7 64-bit with 32-bit version of Vegas Pro 9.0b (for plug-in compatibility). I suspect maybe I need to get more software from Apple or something... I don't really know.

If you can, open the .mp4 file you made in quicktime player, do a Save As and it will wrap it in .mov without changing the compression. It will just re-wrap it.

If you're not on a Mac, tell them to do it.

oh yeah. sorry. I have QuickTime Pro. How big is the file? If you post it, I can do it for you and post it back.

Not big, but it's 6 different videos. I'd really appreciate if you could. I'll PM you a link.

Ugh so they replied back I tried to save it but it gave me another error. No mention of Mac or PC or anything...

Pretty annoying, and I really think that the quality that gets on the site is going to be far less than that of youtube. WHICH SHOULDN'T BE THE CASE !!!!! :(

If it is good for Blu-ray, it is good for the Web.

Lol, that was retarded of me. I meant to write h263. I can't encode to h264 in vegas natively. I think I'll be able to export out in the Animation setting of Quicktime then encode to h264 mov.
