Web Host, Video download speed ?

I have a couple of questions. I have a little website very basic (used a text editor and FTP to host)with a couple of videos. I used QT and iSquint (also just tried straight QT .mov as well) I have both videos down to roughly 40mb and 80mb respectively in a mp4 format. Before the weekend they were QT .mov format at 90mb and 160mb. Now they are taking forever to load. I cannot see it being normal to take 1 hour to download a 40mb embeded file from a website. I am using Website Source as the host server. Can anyone shed some light on the file sizes and speed. I also notice in the mp4 format the videos download completely before playing and before with the .mov they more or less streamed. Ideas ? Can it be the server or is it my HTML ? Thanks

Here is the math of bitrate vs download speed:

Upload a file that is about 50mb to test the speed of your webserver, give it an extention that will not auto open in an application (so rename that quicktime file if that's what your downloading to a .nza or something)

Clock your dowlnoad speed as it is going. Write down the lowest speed. It will most likely be in KilloBytes per second.

Multiply that number by 8, and you'll get the max bitrate in KilloBits per second.

So if your lowest download speed in the transfer was 300KBps, you'll not want your max Bitrate of your file to exceed 2,400 KiloBits per second. In fact I would only use about 50% of that bandwith, because you want multiple people to be able to download off your server at once.
