Web export

Alright, so I know that 720x480 NTSC 4:3 rendered on a LCD or computer screen plays back at 640x480 for proper aspect ratio display. I also learned that TV's use rectangular pixels and digital displays use square, hence quicktime correcting for the difference. However, why are other people able to export their standard def videos for the web into resolutions such as 720x480 and 720x372, etc. and still get a good looking aspect ratio?

Alright, let me re-phrase this, since I seem to be talking to myself here.

I want to "fake" a widescreen look with my 4:3 footage by simply cropping. I shot the footage with my DVX in letterbox mode. Final sequence is finished in FCP and when I export custom settings using quicktime conversion 720x360 the exported video looks a bit off with the aspect ratio. But when I use compressor, aspect ratio looks correct but gives me bad jaggies. I tried about 80(no joke!) different times with different settings and researched this, but I still can't get it right.

HELP!!

JAGGIES - could be a couple of things. Can you post a grab?

I don't have access to the video file at this moment, but I will tomorrow, can you perhaps give me a proper way to do this in compressor?

By the way, all footage was shot in 30p and edited on a progressive timeline.
