I'm real new to FCP, just want to export a 2 min. trailer for uploading on youtube and get the best quality. I know youtube is 100mb and that even the best settings wont look "great," but do you guys have any standard settings you use when exporting for the web?

I have FCP and Compressor, but not quicktime pro.

Any advice?
Thanks in advance

Just an FYI, if you have FCP you have QT Pro. Its part of the install.

For YouTube, I would just go FCP > Export > Using Compressor. Then create a new quicktime movie and adjust the settings as need be (320x240?) and the like. There's quite a bit of stuff you can adjust though. As such you may want to invest in the Apple Pro Training Series Compressor Quick Reference guide. Its only $20 and could be a life saver.

You could also just use "Export Using Quicktime Conversion" and fiddle all the settings in there to your needs. A 2 minute video should hold up okay and get down to the necessary file size easily.

As for the codec to use, I would experiment and see what you like. You could try Photo JPEG, Motion JPEG, Sorenson 3, etc. I think you really need to do some experimenting and make the decision for yourself as to what you'll accept.

Oh also, if you're willing to spend a bit, you can get Flip4Mac's program "Episode." It allows you to convert straight to flash format (though does YouTube allow you to upload the flash files?). Good luck.

Cheers.
