EyeBite really illustrates where the funny lies for those uptight or bereft of a sense of humor despite the fact it is usually futile to 'explain' the funny to people who just 'don't get it'.
I also find it hilarious because they are doing all the rap posturing, acting hard, while doing the aforementioned mundane, rapping about it, eating cupcakes, etc and acting as if they are the shiznit like 'real' rappers do.
Just the fact they make reference to Ghost and The Notebook (I love those cupcakes like McAdams loves Gosling)..... genius. (The fact they pick these particular films to reference is funny because they are both sappy romantic chick flicks, the last thing you'd expect to be referenced by 'acting all hard' rappers)
It is indeed smart stupid comedy...
This has entered the quoting parts of me and my friend's brains for reference... but we are dorks like that.
We answered so fast it was scary! Everyone stared in awe when we yelled 'Matthew Perry!'
So sorry if you don't get as much of a kick out of it as others... Okay I'm not really sorry. You didn't have to watch it. It could be worse. You could not win the lottery.
The skit is not a satire on all rap music. The way that they rap and the style of their delivery is more of a direct imitation of the Beastie Boys and the Beastie Boys' "Intergalactic" video. So whether you like rap music or think it's "nonsense" just get the facts straight and know that the clip wasn't making fun of rap music as a whole genre but just copying the Beastie Boys.
This clip is hilarious especially compared to the other SNL stuff
