We Are Home in MS

Hello, All! We just got home tonight and have fair news, not so good news, and awful news. The fair news, our house is still standing and we have a dry upstairs. Both trees that fell actually missed our house. The not so good news, we had about 36" of water in the house and have lost everything in the livingroom, kitchen, and the entire lower floor. We have so much work ahead of us we hardly know where to start. But we are better off than many in that we do have an intact upstairs and our power and phone is back on. And the awful news, we found out that our next door neighbor, a lady I have know 3/4s of my life, died the night of the storm. She was 79 years old. And we still don't know about several other neighbors and friends.

Everyone please keep thinking good thoughts for us down here as we really need every good thought, prayer, etc. that y'all can send.

I am going to go take a sleeping pill and cry myself to sleep now. Tomorrow we will really start the hell of trying to get the clean up going and see what, if anything, is left of our lovely Gulf Coast area. As bad as it was getting away, it is 100 times worse coming back.

I am so sorry to hear about everything! I can't imagine what that feels like, but my thoughts are with you and everyone else down there.

If there's anything we can do, let us know. The DVX community isn't just for making movies.

Happy thoughts for Moonwind,
Happy thoughts for Moonwind,
Happy thoughts for Moonwind.

Thank you, thank you. I guess the best way to help would be to donate to any legit Katrina relief fund like Red Cross or Salvation Army, etc. We ate MREs tonight and loaded up with ice and water, all donated by wonderful people around the country. So, every little bit helps for all of us down here! Unless, of course, a few of you want to come pull up stinky, wet, starting to mold carpet! :cheesy:

Did you know that picking up waterlogged, soaked books (and we have MANNNNNNY) feels like picking up some kind of slimy, slippery, snot covered living creature? Now THAT might make an interesting horror short!

We are glad to know jdan is OK. We haven't been able to PM him (sporadic phone and power brownouts makes it hard), but if anyone does PM him, please give him our best!

Tomorrow we start the REAL yuck work - water soaked boxes that have turned to mush and are full of ????????

More Later! We have some digitil stills that we can post soon of our crudy crud curd ... and we will begin taping soon, hopefully something that can be shown at least on local TV as we clean up and recover.

We're all thinking about you. Good luck with the clean-up and I'm sure your home and family will be stronger because of this. Take care.

I'm so glad to hear the house is still there and that you and yours are safe. We have Gulf Coast families here in our area that are being put up in local housing for however long they need, but they have nothing. Absolutely nothing. I cant imagine going thru the kind of loss and shock these people have gone thru, but I asked myself today, if I WERE to be in that position, what would I want or need the most, and that is what I am getting for them. A friend called to tell me these families had arrived here in our area, but needed everything from toothbrushes to toilet paper because all they had was the clothes on their backs.

Thanks for the update, Lanie. My continued prayers are with you.

Terri

It never stops to amaze me how people in the worst of crises manage to keep their sense of humor.

Moonwind, I am so glad you have a home to come back to, and for you being in good spirit despite of your hardship. You should definitely try to find the time to tape some of what you are going through, for the rest of us and for future generations.

Thanks again for all the good wishes, PK, XCheck, Terri ... and the good news that jdan is OK made our night!

Terri - One thing I can tell you that everyone, especially the women will really appreciate is underwear - bras and panties. That seems to be one thing many people forget about when putting together clothing aid. And I can tell you right now, my first clean pair of panties after working in 98 degrees and 98 % humidity was ALMOST as good as sex!
