Watermarking my video footage

Been doing research on watermarking with Premiere Elements 8 and I learned that you can do it in Premiere Elements by following these steps.

1. Use Title feature and place text on the footage and then place title on the Video Track above the Clips.

2.Drag end of title to match the length of footage.

It sounds like it will work but is it difficult to remove? Is it the same type of watermark that is used in photo shop?

Not sure what you're asking. The idea of a watermark is that it's difficult to remove. I would angle the letter 45 degree so that it stretches diagonally across the picture (so people can't just crop it out) and then lower the opacity so that it's not distracting.

Do you mean is it easy for you to remove to show the original footage once you are done with the watermark? If so yes, even easier than creating it. You just delete the title or disable it in case you want to show the watermark again later.

Or did you mean easy to remove by a viewer that wants to jack your footage? If that is the case then it is way more trouble for the would be thief than what it is worth if you lay a proper watermark. Just like Huy described, put it in the way of your footage but lower the opacity so that it is noticeable but not obstructing too much. Go diagonal or at the 1/3 or 2/3 vertical mark to avoid cropping.

Thanks for replies.

That is exactly what I want to do, but I was under the impression that could only be accomplished through photo shop.

In terms of laying down the proper watermark, is what I originally described the proper way to do it?

Like all things, there is more than one way to do it "properly" . The way you describe is one way to do it

If you re-encode it with the overlay on top , you cannot remove it. It becomes part of video. Other people can try to remove it by using logo removers, blurring techniques , pixel interpolation filters, but they are usually imperfect. Applying any transformation like that also requires another generation of re-encoding

As mentioned above, placement is the key, because if it's just on an edge, other people can crop it out easily, or mask it out. On the other hand, if your logo is too intrusive it can be severely annoying to viewers and ruin the experience of your piece.

Other annoying techniques are fading in/out or moving logo x,y positions throughout time - it makes it harder for someone else to blur or crop the logo, but is very annoying IMO

Just to clarify that statement. The watermark becomes part of that exported clip. Your original is still in tact. I know it is obvious to most but it sounds like Foster may be new to NLE's so I thought I would make that part clear.

Thanks for replies.

Yes, the way you described will get the job done. Just consider the comments of placement and opacity to protect your footage while still keeping it viewable.

Now if your footage is of a watermark, I have no idea what to tell you. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Yes. I am very new to NLE. And I greatly appreciate everyone's input. I know what I want but I am still trying to figure out how to pull it off.

Is this what you are looking for?
