Hey guys from the Audio section!

Just posting to thank all of you for the loads of knowledge you up up free of charge! I knew squat about audio about 6 months ago and now I am proud to say that I was able to butcher a short film together.

I didn't have proper wind protection or a shotgun when we started so 85% of it was looped! Hahaha.... a noob like me learning how to loop... can you say OUCH?

Anyhow, I did my best and I uploaded it to the footage section here:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=110243

I would really appreciate it if you "took a listen" and gave me any tips on how to polish it if at all possible.

Again THANKS A MILLION!

P.S.: I got a shotgun and a zeppelin now, never again! :)

just one more thing... I think I went overboard with the levels of the room tone... and I still need to try to remove hiss from some of the ARD fron the groundskeeper's dialog on the last conversation they have in the cemetery

other than that everything was done to the best of my current ability but without the shotgun or proper wind protection...

I know, it is sad... but you might be able to help me with some tips and pointers

Too big to download on my wifi connection but congratulations on your short. 90% of freshmen filmmakers give up and quit after all the frustrations and never even finish their first film. You just passed the most difficult bar. It only gets better from here. :)

I will try to check out your film at home.

Again, congratulations!

I actually hope you don't Wabbit... I am so ashamed of the audio... I mean it was all ADR and I am not done building up the sound design... it is a frankenstein... and I REALLY need monitors.... :(

regardless I am learning a ton and I am very exited... Next time I will have the K-Tek Zeppelin and the shotgun so I hope I will butcher the boom operating instead :D

hehe... thanks Oleg... I am so ashamed to show it to you and the guys but to my defense I have no monitors and I didn't have the zeppelin or the shotgun, and this is my first project... :D

I'll make you guys proud soon. (I hope!)

Isn't it sad how I keep saying that over and over again? lol

Then stop saying it. It undermines your effort and your work. This is your first completed short. As Wabbit pointed out, the fact that you actually completed it, knowing that you had the limitations you had, shows that you are willing, not only to work within the constraints you have, but to see a project through to completion.

You will have enough people beating down your work without you needing to do so.

Also, I am downloading this, and going into the viewing thinking it is going to be a piece of sh!t, not because of any of the comments thus far, but because you have pounded it into our heads that it is not good. Don't do that.

Post a link, and wait for feedback. Don't knock your own work, don't give us some kind of disclamer about your work. Let it stand for itself, and take the advice and feedback you get, and then use that to make a better work next.

You decided to do it all with ADR, and on your first attempt to boot. Simulating room tone and making the ADR sound like it is the right place is not an easy thing to do for someone who hasn't done that with a limited audio background.

The fact that you decided you needed to, means that you were willing to go the extra step to ensure a level of quality that you want. Proper ADR is hard enough. Realizing that and implementing that, and go that extra step says a lot about how concerned you are about quality.

Be a little easier on yourself, and let the people who watch it give you advice, and then learn from that.

I'm still downloading. I'll weigh in when I have seen it.

Hey Matt... yes, you are right about that and I employ that "tactic" with other people. However I have read countless posts by all of you here and in a non-weird way I feel like I know you. I guess I might be venting, which is childish and needy though, so it still isn't right. And regardless of how I feel about DVX members, if my posts are going to ruin the experience for you then I am guilty of that.

I need to relax and stop obsessing, and like many of you said, just enjoy what I was able to do and move on to the next project with that added ability.

I am sorry for being such a dark cloud. I hope you still enjoy it. And thank you so much for your post... there is a LOT I need to learn about creating the right environment for taking advantage of criticism and also enable effective marketing for the future.
