Hello

Im a producer who needs to take care of washing a rycote wind cover as we will be using a new soundie on our next shoot and the last soundie used the cover as his pillow and sweat rag....so any advice on the best way to wash this without damaging it. I was planning to handwash with some soap - is this ok? Hopefully someone else has done this and can advise me.

Many Thanks,

Producer CA

# What is the best way to clean a Softie and/or Windjammer?
# A: Both Softies and Windjammers are supplied with a Hair Brush, customers often think that we are joking by including this; but it is actually very important to keep the synthetic fibres as free from tangles as possible to ensure the best possible performance from our products. If your Softie or Windjammer is in a really bad state, see below. Softies should be dry brushed thoroughly to remove as much dirt and debris as possible, and to remove any matting that may occur. You should never submerge your Softie in water as this may damage the product. Windjammers may be hand washed in cold water with a very mild detergent and then allowed to air dry naturally. After drying, they will need to be brushed out to remove any tangles or matts and to keep the fur fibres in good condition.
# Q: Can I treat my Windjammer with water repellent to make it waterproof?
# A: The Windjammer material is already treated with a very fine layer of Scotchguard, but adding any further quantities can result in a crackling noise being heard. Water repellents may also seriously degrade the HF transparency of the backing, so we really would not recommend it

If it's not that wors... using a hair brush will do also...

But because you said the soundguy was using it as pillow and sweat rag..... I was image a sort of "clumbed hairball" (I don't know if the word" clumbed" exists actualy...., it sounds "existable":-p)
