So, I'm on FB and I get a message...

Hi Jet,

As a screenwriter, one of the most daunting tasks you face is submitting your work to the people in power - the agents, producers and industry execs whose approval you need in order to get your movie made. It can be an ego-bruising experience, and what's frustrating is that the "no" almost never comes with any useful advice or an honest explanation of the thought process behind the rejection.

But what if you could get inside the minds of those Hollywood gatekeepers and learn how they make their judgments? I am the CEO of the entertainment and media consulting firm, the Hollywood Advisory Group, which will help you in your efforts to get your screenplays picked up by agencies and purchased by major studios and producers around Hollywood.

I worked at William Morris Endeavor for over five years (both before and after William Morris merged with Endeavor). I worked for some of the highest ranking agents at WME, and have worked with some of the top filmmakers and screenwriters in the industry. Our consultants work at major Hollywood companies, such as WME, CAA, ICM, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate, Principato Young, 3Arts Entertainment, Untitled Entertainment, Arad Productions, Bruckheimer Films, Bad Robot, UTA, Principal Entertainment, Universal, Disney, and Warner Brothers, so our network of relationships in the industry is massive, and our company continues to be of considerable value to writers, such as yourself, who are trying to make it in Hollywood.

We offer a comprehensive service that is individually tailored to help you achieve your career goals. We will help you develop your concepts, consult you on how the industry really works, provide you with an analysis of your screenplays from a buyer/agent’s perspective, work with you on developing the subsequent drafts of the script, develop strategies for you to best position your screenplays for buyers, and connect you with agents, managers, and executives once the script has been developed and is in the best shape possible for sale.

I have no idea who he is and how the heck did he know I was a screenwriter -- and why am I so special? So I asked:

Hey, Mr. Hansen. Thanks. This sounds cool. But how'd you know I was a screenwriter? Did someone refer you?

He answered:

Hi Jet,

We find screenwriters through screenwriting groups on different social networking platforms. That is how we found you. Are there any scripts of yours that you would like is to work with you on?

Best,

Brooks

I'm smelling a SCAM here. No firm LOOKS for screenwriters, especially through Facebook... right? Anybody here been through this and have any thoughts or actually know the guy?

3) Go to the William Morris web site. First notice the quality difference between their main site and this "Subsidiary". Then go to the agent finder. http://www.wma.com/0/cta/music/electronic/emailandoffers/ - look for Mr. Hansen on the list

4) Draw your own conclusion...
