Any one with any ideas on how this documetary was shot
type of camera and if there was a lense involved.
the picture quality is great and also the way they
have made us of dof.

any suggestions on how it was done or how you would
do it to get a look as this one or something close to it?

Several festival sites state the film is shot in 35mm...Though I can't confirm that.

there isn't much to say here, the filmmakers were shooting in a very dry environment, and a lot of what you see visually is them shooting at a wide aperture, to decrease their DOF as much as possible. Not a whole lot that really stands out to me, It is mostly just the format of shooting film.
 
I am pretty sure it was Varicam 720p with variable frame rates. That's Sean's camera package (I talked to him during the summer).
