War of the Worlds

Re: War of the Worlds

The panic is that WOTW was such an epic media event. The thought that they would rush a re-make (of sorts) is discerning.

Re: War of the Worlds

Feel like a fast pace is part of Spielbergs style though. He typically works very pretty quickly.

No, I meant on their side. Why the big rush to get it in the can?

theres another wotw being done independently that comes out in march that is straight from the book instead of the original movie or the speilberg workover. it was in indie or moviemaker or some other paper publication this month.

Re: War of the Worlds

I just worked on War of the Worlds again yesterday. Iv'e worked a total of four days on it so far doing 24 frame video playback. What a strange set... There is no script (that they are giving he crew anyway), they don't even give out sides in the morning.

It's really hard to get a feel for what the film is going to be like. I have yet to see any of the aliens or ships, and from what one of the crew members told me it is going to be more of a story of Tom Cruise's family and what is happening to them during the whole ordeal. When I first heard that we were going to get to do the video playback, I pictured a huge war room with tons of computer monitors, rear projection screens etc. There is none of that.

As far as Spielberg's shooting pace, yes he is very fast but needless to say very good. Most of the old school directors that I have worked with don't mess around. A couple of good takes and they are moving on. It still blows my mind however when I see the kind of detail that goes into one of his movies (You should have seen the airport set on "The Terminal").

By the way, the catering on his shows are amazing. Yesterday for lunch I had crab legs and prime rib! Later in the day the craft service guy brought in some cajun food including shrimp gumbo and aligator! Only in hollywood.

Re: War of the Worlds
