Wanting to buy a DVX100a this week, one question

When I go to the store and see the  DVX100a in F5 and F6 it strobes badly even when the camera is stationary and I just wave my hand or someone walks by.  When I see everyone's footage posted here I don't see the strobing.   It looks smooth.

When I convert my 60i footage to 24p I don't see strobing unless there is a fast pan.

Is this strobing I see in the LCD and viewfinder of the DVX100a not there once the scene is recorded to tape?

The strobing will look FAR more severe when you look at the VF or LCD than it does once you play it back into your NLE. Don't be alarmed by that.

As Horsefilms says, the LCD shows strobing more noticeably than the television does. However, be aware that it is the nature of 24p to strobe. If you go looking for strobing, you will most definitely find it. That's what 24p does. You have to adapt your shooting style to minimize strobing. You don't want to eliminate it, because it is the strobing that is the very thing that makes our video footage look like film. The DVX strobes exactly like film does.

If you want to totally eliminate strobing, you can do so by shooting in 60i, but then it'll look like video. So embrace the strobing, learn to control your shots to minimize it, and you'll be well on your way to shooting footage that looks like what the clips posted here look like.

In Barry's dvd/book it talks about certain methods to minimize/control strobing.

Forgive me noobness - but what exactly is strobbing? How do you prevent it?

It's just the slightly jerky motion that you get when panning at 24p (you can greatly reduce this if you pan slower).

But, like Barry said, you don't want to eliminate it completely.  It provides a lot of that surreal film look which so many people bought the DVX to achieve.
