Want to buy a studio?

You know you are getting old when the place where all of the greatest pop music ever recorded is up for the highest bidder!

They even shot an AbFab there when Patsy drunkenly runs into the tape machine with the Beatles re-mixes being dubbed over and mistakenly dubs Eddie's terrible voice over the Beatles track. I mean, the Beatles and AbFab, the place is priceless.

how many people buy watches now ?

will you still use and afford a watch facility
a huge label why sell ? why would they be closed

if a music hit was made in a home a label would re record maybe
now everything in entertainment is in the hands of everyone even poorer people ($300 laptop)
i have no access exactly who or when if you have a freind in sony or universal records they know who has and do (autotune)

I'm sure it's only worth it's real estate value + a premium for the name and some equptment in these times when studios are going out of business left and right.

The name might be worth more than the real estate though, tough to say in these times.

Anyone have a prospectus?

It's an iconic and historically relevant place. It doesn't really have anything to do with the fact that recording there may or may not be relevant in today's market.

Just like Faneuil Hall, CBGBs or the trailer where they shot Pink Flamingos. You don't sell that.

Oh wait...I guess one out of three ain't bad.

YES... CBGB's and The Great Gildersleeves! I used to love playing those clubs back in the day. It's a shame really cool clubs & studios are disappearing every day.

...speaking of which... the last album we recorded (Bearsville Studios) has just been reissued and released on CD over at Retrospect Records! If you loved the 80's...you have to check this site out.

...and please, help a fellow DVXer... buy the CD!

CBGBs was the last club I played before I left New York. I still remember the phone call the next day, when they asked us to come back. But we were already a train wreck of a band.

I heard they were going to take it apart and rebuild it in some Casino in Vegas. That ever happen?

I'll check out the site Zaza.

Sun Studios is still there, I think if someone was smart, they would buy Abbey Road and preserve it and make it a working studio/museum. It would be very sad if they do replace it with condos or a Tesco. But it wouldn't surprise me. At least it is in the U.K. where they tend to have a bit more respect for cultural history than we do in this country, especially here on the west coast.

That would also be my wish, it would be nice if their gov stepped up and did that for a historic monument type thing. Sell the rights to the name, recoupe the investment and call it the former abbey road studio while preserving it and making it a tourist attraction.

Interesting link Jim. It does raise the question though, why wouldn't McCartney just buy it? $20 or $30 million is small pocket change to him. Hmm...

I imagine it's about what he is paying his divorce lawyer.

But I guess it's not just about the purchase. It's about the ongoing expenses and logistics. If the trust buys it, they can run it like a museum. That takes more than just writing a check. But I guess he could pony up a shilling or two and then donate it to the trust.
