Wanna say thanks...

..to Jarred and the other 'DVXuser Gods'. This forum is really incredible. This is all due to no small effort on your part, and I just want to tell you I appreciate your services.

For the past year or so, I have been totally entranced by video production. After doing MUCH research into various cameras, I found your forum on the DVX100. Seeing the footage posted here completely sold me and put any and all arguments for other cameras to rest (I have to say, Shai's 'Der Besuch' is over the top! I can point to that trailer and say, "that's what made me buy the Panny".)

I ordered my DVX100 (on guidance from a lot of folks here) last week. I got it Friday and any fears are gone. With my limited knowledge I have still been able to create my own beautiful footage with the cam. This is an incredible product. And you and all the others on dvxuser are incredible unseen friends, helping enthusiasts like me see a little dream happen for us, too.

Hopefully I'll have something very meaningless to post soon so I can join all the other 'geeked' DVX newbies and say I posted footage at the DVX shrine, DVXuser.com.

PS - anyone in the NorCal Bay Area want to get together? I live in Fairfield and have only one friend who lives in Stockton who wants to get into video with me.

Thanks again,
Jared (with one 'r')

I hope you kick some but with the new camera!!!!!

Re: Wanna say thanks...

Right on!

Cool name! ;)

I too am in so junkie mode. I'm writing a short but am planning a smaller 2 to 3 minute shorts to do like freakin ASAP. I can't NOT make a film and am not waiting for the 25 minute short to be done at a later date (Writing currently).

Yeah baby!

To jaredalv:
Hey, many people come to this place, and we all pass along something of ourselves through the little stories we tell.

it is about sharing, and openly trying to help each other grow, ... helpingly. We all share the same technology, so then it is about trying to reach a higher goal or understandard; all learn in the process.

But, it is the storys that tell the pictures.

Re: Wanna say thanks...

Re: Wanna say thanks...

I agree -- great place to be. Welcome aboard!

Everyone's got something to contribute, and everyone has more to learn, so don't be afraid to chime in. The reigning theme in this place is (most of the time ;)) "respect," so you won't get dogged . . .

Re: Wanna say thanks...

welcome man... welcome. Blow all your questions you may ever have at this board... it's full of willing geniuses to help you out 24/7. I know I've always loved this place as a resource. Can't wait to see your footage... ;D

Re: Wanna say thanks...

..just dont ask what that clicking noise is, or how to get the anamorphic lense on and off, and stuff like that.. :) man i have to wonder , if people dont know that you have to tighten the screw to actuallybe threading it in/out. i wonder how many people never actually had it mounted right and secure, before asking how to get it off.
..nah not that i relly care. its just a little bothersome somtimes when questions can easily be answered by the manual the item came with. :)

Re: Wanna say thanks...

Thanks to all of you for the welcome. Actually regarding someone asking me what my first footage was going to be ... "your cat coughing up some pantyhose". I have something close to that. I will post a msg here and in the footage forum when I get it edited and posted.

Loser, I do have a question about the manual zoom being a little 'loose' at first grab, but I need to check things out more before I post something over in the technical forum.

Thanks again to all of you and Hudson's cat for the love. Meanwhilst... stay tuned...

PS - I've been using my cam w/the default battery for 4 hours and suddenly it just went black on me. Anybody tell me why this crappy camera DIED on me? JK

Now, THAT'S the spirit! ;D ;D ;D

Re: Wanna say thanks...

..it does have a pretty loose feel to it, but i personally like that, cause you can pull of a crash zoom very easily, and not be stripping the drag mechanism by thrashing the zoom around so much. i dont normally touch the zoom during a shot though, unless im doining a slow zoom which i do with the top zoom rocker set to the slow speed.

Re: Wanna say thanks...

Yeah, I probably will never/seldom use zoom in a shot. I just didn't know if it was only my camera or if others also had this. Something similar to the clicking. If I hadn't read about 'the click', I would have been a little concerned. I can't recall reading anything about the zoom though.

You're right in that I do find myself mostly using the auto zoom on the handle.

Anyway, thanks again. I'm back to my editing-when-the-boss-isn't-looking. Maybe someday I'll be full-time at this like you pros.

There is something fishy with the power meter on the camera, sometimes the battery doesnt update the status until you turn it off and on again.
