Then again, most pirates have beards too. For this reason I will not grow a beard. I can ONLY direct with a parrot on my shoulder. Add a beard to the equation and I'm worried my cast and crew would look at me more as a pirate than a director.

I was in a crazy period where I had to work like at all hours of the night (Sort-of like what I am doing now ...Look at the time that I am posting this...) Anyways, I was trying to get a flick done for a contest and I Sort-of stopped shaving for a few weeks, which is kinda wierd for me.  But its funny, when people see that you have a beard (my experience at least) they automatically think that you are trying to make a statement.  They think that you are being a rebel and they give you respect.  You can become a bad ass director w/ a beard (or at least look like one) But you gotta know what to sport w/ that beard, like some suave clothes (just look at that pimp jacket on Marty!). cause if you show up with a beard and some rags, then people will think ur a bum (Like Peter Jackson...)

Except for gel-boy Lucas, you notice their hair is kind of a mess, too.

Keep in mind, though, the Welles didn’t have the beard when he directed, and he was about the biggest rebel there was at the time.

He did have the beard when he did the voice of Omnicron in the Transformers animated movie...so what does that tell you?

How about directors sans beard?

Wes Anderson, Woody Allen, Frank Capra, Akira Kurosawa, Jean Luc Goddard, François Truffaut, Sidney Lumet, etc. etc.
