I have a scene in a short movie that we are currently in preperation to shoot, I have one scene where one of my characers is running past a wall while hes getting shot at. Ive thought about it and I havnt got an idea how to make it look like bullets hitting the wall, if anyone has any ideas, please share. it would help lots. :dankk2:

okay thanks, id rather not spend the money but looks like a nice program, will I be able to use it With New Tek's Speed Edit?

There are also a lot of free overlays available from Detonation Films. They sell CD's, but the free stuff is decent, if a little lower quality.

I would use SweetTarts (or other soft powdered candy) and a slingshot. For legal reasons, I can't recommend that you try it, though. But it's interesting what we believe as viewers. Many years ago, I needed a shot of a bullet hitting a row of bottles. So, being the goofball that I am, I simply loaded my .22 rifle, stood about 10 feet away and shot the bottle. Well, I learned at a young age that real bullet hits are NOTHING like you see in the movies - totally unbelieveable. I basically disintegrated that bottle, all the bottles next to it and the shelf it was sitting on. Not pretty at all. I now shoot large metal shot with a slingshot just off camera when I need the effect of a bullet hitting into walls and bottles and other inanimate objects. My last film needed the effect from my youth once again. This time I used the slingshot and the effect was PERFECT - totally believeable. I wanted a gumball machine to get hit. As I learned in real life, the gumball machine would have bascially exploded with a real shot, and so fast that there'd be nothing interesting to view. Buy my trusty ol' slingshot had just the right amount of (much slower) velocity to send glass and gumballs dancing as the container shattered. It also worked on bottles. Visually, very pretty. And the metal ball travels fast enough that you never see it in the frame. I know you want that puff of dust and not so much something shattering, but I would still try the slingshot. (But don't you try it.) One other quick story. All us guys love things that explode or make loud noises. I was always trying to figure out new things to do with my little starter pistol (blank gun). It was also a .22. I was bored one day (it always seems to start out that way) and so just for the heck of it (I was about 10 at the time), I loaded up a blank and thrust my hand (with the gun) into and under the water in the shallow end of our pool...and I pulled the trigger. Refer to my fourth sentence above regarding "goofball". I learned quickly about equal and opposite reactions and the theory of energy needing a place to go. I didn't have any feeling in that hand for days. And the little starter pistol actually disintegrated - with little pieces of metal drifting to the bottom of the pool. But the bubbles of ascending smoke were pretty cool!

haha, that does sound like a good idea i may try that to see if it gives the effect im looking for, and btw Jamey I bout those effects and I have all the Mov's saved to my hard drive but for some reason I try to throw the MOV on the line and it acts like its going to throw on there, but then it goes back to the file. it just wont go onto the line...I have several of the Detenation Films MOV's and they go on the line great, its just the movie essentials Mov's that wont even move... i redownloaded it and extracted the file twice... but idk whats going on..thanks everyone.

Hmmm. What program are you using? I've used the overlays in After Effects with no problems. I just key the color, position it where I need it, and keyframe it if the shot moves around. Theres a whole page of tutorials on the website, but they are all for After Effects.

i use a program called New Tek SpeedEdit, i have no problem with dragging other Mov's onto the line its just these one that i just got. i dont understand, it beats me.

I'm not familiar with that program. I would try a work around such as converting the MOV's to another format and then try using them. Either that or send an email to the manufacturer support address.
