Wall Color for new studio space

I'll have the opportunity to redo my room in March 2009. What kind of color would be best for the room to do video work, watch movies in, etc. I've heard everything from White, to 18% Grey, to Dark Grey, to Black.

Anyone have an informed opinion? I'll be decking it out with lots of things so I wanna get it right the first time.

When you go to the movie theater, what color are they? When you see photos of post studios in ASC, what color are they? Honestly, I'd do a very flat, dark dray. Something non reflective.

Dark, whatever you want that's not glossy... a nice matte dark color. If you want to get extreme then black. But you might want to pick something a bit more appealing for your customers. Maybe a royal red, but very dark.

I am thinknig something like the drapes here: http://www.travel-buenosaires.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/teatro-colon-1.gif

Gold accents, while MUCH more toned down than in this theatre also bring in that "theatre" feel that has a nice subliminal effect on your customers...

EDIT: Crap... your room... sorry... I somehow thought your post said your editing room as in your office... my bad...

Believe it or not I have seen them done in cloth.

You have to be careful as each site has it's own requirements but when it works it works well.

Do the ol' Googling and you can find some nice materials and designs.

Other than that, flat and dark. Red is nice so are the grays and steel blues etc.

My recording studio is done in red cloth, everyone seems to like it. My "editing suite" (that's what I like to call it) is in the basement of my house next to my kids playroom. It is hard for me to work to say the least.

If you are going to be doing any color-correction, you should definitely use a neutral middle gray (50%). Any color like dark red is going to affect the way you see the images in your monitor, and therefore the corrections you make.

not if it is dark enough... but if you want the best of the best then certainly something neutral... not necessarily 50% but it does sound like a very very good way to go

you can then add blue and make it your DVXuser room! :)
