Walking Tall...Alternate Ending scene

I was watching the Alternate ending on the Walking Tall DVD last night and I am still puzzled how they did the shot. The Rock and Johnny Knoxville is sitting at the top of the steps out on the porch of the house. The camera pulls out (I am guessing Stedicam because you would see the tracks if were a dolly shot.) The camera continues to pull backwards to the point where you cannot see their faces, then the camera starts to go up in the air to about the height of a telephone pole then stops. Whatever they did, it was done in one complete shot. I'd like to know how they did that!

Re: Walking Tall...Alternate Ending scene

that's easy
it's a steadicam man on a crane. they always do that.

also in the beginning of boogie nights, the crane comes down and it steps into the club. all one shot from beginning to end. how, it's a steadicam man stepping off the crane and continuing the shots.

Re: Walking Tall...Alternate Ending scene

i mean i haven't seen walking tall but does it make sense now with that said?
i dunno, if it looks natural that's my best guess.
at time, you know, they have cranes that go interiors.

I saw a doc on IFC. it takes off into the air. I mean it kept going. Can't be a crane. I said probbly a helicopter but at what point did the camera guy hop on and the heli take off without blowing excessive amount of wind? so i guessed that it was a huge crane with an obnoxious wide angle and it appears that we are far away into the air when it's only about 200 feet or so.

Re: Walking Tall...Alternate Ending scene

..if the ground is flat where the camera is pulling back it could easily be a crane on wheels.. not track wheels, just pnumatic tires of some sort.(like sticking a crane on the back of a truck or on a nice panther dolly). and the crane simply stays down level and rolls backwards, and then starts to elevate.

Re: Walking Tall...Alternate Ending scene

that works too. in fact, if you guys were ever into magic at all, and you wondered how does it work? sometimes those illusions work just as logically as it would- but it's so logical, you wouldn't think of it.
so in the same way, alot of times, I think movies do certain things and you wonder well, how did they get that shot? It's probably whatever you can guess.

Re: Walking Tall...Alternate Ending scene

I would think it was a crane. They used a special crane in the Texas Chainsaw remake that was able to pull from inside the Van (using a long lens) out the van, across the field and about a hundred yards away. Im sure both techniques would work.

Question? You can usually spot a Stablilizer shot just by looking at the top edges of the frame. Any movement in that area?

could be any number of big cranes out there like this. the super techno crane is pretty amazing. you wouldnt believe the things it can do.

yeah, the other thing they do is have a steady cam operator walk backwards, on to a lift that takes them back.

also another cool rig is a spydercam check out their demo reel...****in rad...http://www.spydercam.com/demo.html
they can drop those things in anywhere.

Re: Walking Tall...Alternate Ending scene

Wow that demo was totally hot! I have seen those cameras being used in various movies and in the X-Games.
