Walking into EVS is dangerous...

Dangerous I tell you... Here's why...

So I plan on walking in with $260.00 cash. To buy a DV Caddie $209.00 and some tape stock.

I SEE the DVRIG Pro... curiosity killed the wallet.
They let me hoist it onto my shoulders with a rental DVX on it... and to top it off, they add the steady stick connecting my waist to the DV Rig Pro... and then they unlock the stock... only to reveal that it is spring/shock/whatever it is loaded... and low and behold... the thing balanced awesome, took the weight off my back... and suddenly spend $400 more than what I originally intended. So I am outside playing with DVRig Pro.. only to say.. "Damn, it's kind of hard to see." Sales rep goes... no worries, we have something for that!... they then busted out the Hoodman H400. I said... "eh, I don't really need it."

...and then they put it on the LCD screen. It just looked so.... coool. And I am another $21+ in the hole.

My $260 adventure was now $640+ and I was walking out the door... someone walks in asking about "his matteblox".

What's a matteblox?
This is a matteblox.

Could this be? A mattebox sunshade under $1000? And then Rush put it on the camera to show the client what it would look like.... and... it looked soooo..... cooool! And professional!!!
I instantly thought of all those sunny days filming surf with a towel covering me and the camera for makeshift shade. I buy the kit... with an adaptor... and then... then they bust out the "French hood". I figured I go past the whole 9 yards and get one of those too.

So.... $260 adventure turns into $850+... that is why... EVS is dangerous.
...and here I am... smiling, at my awesomely looking setup of DVRigPro, Matteblox, and a hoodman. My camera now looks officially "Badass" at an affordable cost. And functions great. Already used the hood under the sun, and I wish I had heard about Matteblox sooner. I made 2 potential clients in the beach parking lot because of that french hood. It just makes the DVX look so much more professional to people who normally don't know about this kind of stuff.

Thanks for the great help EVS. Forgot the name of the sales rep, (tall brownhaired guy with a goater/beard)

(Ill post pic of the new setup soon hehe)

Hehe. Hey, i know what you're talking about--I've gone on a few benders at B&H. It sounds like you got some great gear, the DVRigPro is definitely worth the $$.

haha .. yeah EVS is funny though cause its a TINY little storefront and they jam pack it with only the coolest stuff they got.. so its dynamite...

With all due respect... it can be equally dangerous shopping online or via the telephone. :)

Hahahah, I hear ya on that...
I took mearly getting a cam and tripod to my dad saying you mine as well get everything you need at once...I was like well **** I can't afford all of it it, he says I'll loan you the money so you have a good set-up from the get go!!!! (now is that an awesome dad or what??? 8) )
So on to the list went:
New mic
Pelican case 1600
Rain/snow/dust cover
extra battery
multi coated UV filters
with him chirpin in my earing watching me pick out stuff the whole time, he says now make sure you aren't getting the crappy stuff!!!!
before I knew it I had just increased the bill by almost 1000!!!!!!
Now I just have to take that last step and call Rush! :)

Buck

PS: new toys are so fun!!!!

I think I've spent eight or ten grand at EVS in the last six months. That place is addictive! The showroom is absurdly tiny, but the sales folk are so darn helpful and there's always something new to look at...

I heard they were planning on expanding the showroom. Great -- that's all I need, access to more toys! :)

For me shopping on-line is a blessing. I have much more control when I don't actually have something in my hands. But once I am actually trying it out, I'm pretty much reaching for the wallet.

Oh thank god... I am not the only one.
I kept thinking to myself.
.. Angel Shoudler... DOH!!! It's an impulse buy!!! Don't do it!!! You really don't need it! Wait till' you have another wedding or 2 lined up before spending the dough!!!

... evil shoulder ... Do it... you're gonna' need it sooner or later... Don't go cheap. You're gonna buy the expensive to upgrade to stuff sooner or later anyway. and just think.. look how cool this stuff looks on your camera. Come on... the other customer is buying one. Why don't you?

...and buck, while you're at it, get the DVRigPro and Matteblox lol!

We have to camera shop in town so I have to order online. Its both a blessing and a curse, because I would like to see and try the product before forking over the cash, but it can't be done.

However, I do tend to spend less online.

Ok, finally took some pics.
This is with the stock Lens. The .8 wide angle will not fit. Supposedly they make one for the 16:9 adaptor. Only downfall about the hood... (it blocks the mic) gotta find a shoe with a long extender to put the mic on top of the camera to mount it. Anyone have suggestions?

If you are using the dvrig it looks like there's a mic holder on the lower right side.

I thought that at first too... but the mic barely fits in there and pops out. :undecided
If it didn't look like it would snap eventually, I would totally use it for a mic holder.
The manual says it's a holder for the spring-stick that connects the waist to the Rig when not in use. I am thinking it could probably run some cables through it though too...

I hate that Rush knows every piece of equiptment in that store. Because if I could say "hey Rush, tell me about such and such." and for once he could say "I don't know what that is." then maybe I could make an EVS purchase for less than $3,000. Because that ALWAYS happens.

Stupid EVS and stupid B&H. Just wait til I live down south, I'm going to spend all my rent money on lights.

"Hi, I'm TC, and I'm addicted to video gear."

The implication is that I am president due to the fact I've "probably" spent as much money on video gear (if not more) than yourself. :)

Actually, that's not a club I'm proud to be part of. :(

Ooooh, I get it. WOW, there have been a few really good jokes going right over my head lately.

Well Mr. President, through the good times and the bad, you must stick with your company.

Maybe we can get some Century glass as a kickback or something. (hint, hint Rush.)

If only I could walk into EVS! Here in Hawaii, either the vendors don't know what I'm talking about or they insist they can place an order for me - but why when I can place an order with EVS myself and get great service from Rush? I feel bad sometimes, I keep pestering him for quotes and information. If EVS was in town, I could simply walk in and check out the merchandise, feed my addiction, er, I mean make informed business decisions, and get back to shooting.
