Waiting for RedRock Micro35

To all you guys waiting
for your RedRock Micro35 Cinema Lens Adapter.
Has anyone heard any news lately on when we may expect to get them. I ordered 8 weeks ago. Redrock originally gave me a 4 to 6 week delivery date. Should I be concerned?
I understand some of you have been waiting for 3 months.

Any reply from Redsrock would be nice.

I believe they are currently updating the imaging element (ground glass) again and are waiting to ship any more orders until that is done, which I believe will be next week. At least that's what I've gathered from the forums at redrockmicro.com. Anxiously awaiting mine, too, but I'd rather it be right -- although I am missing some prime shooting days.

Yes, that seems to be the case from what I understand. But isn't it going to be worth it for you guys? I mean, at least they're not sending you the old version with the plans for a newer one within a few weeks! =D

Ok,
That is good news.
I had not seen any OFFICal News as too what the delay was.
But the newest and best imaging element will be worth the wait
Thanks

The wait is the only thing keeping me from ordering a Micro35. Jonathon Houser said the Guerilla35 would be shipped within 3 days of placing your order (assuming it EVER even comes out)........

Hahaha...I have to give them credit though...they are still running their everyday lives so handmaking these things can take some time.

Our goal is to produce a great adapter for around $500. Part of our strategy is a build-to-order process, which does have a lead time. We are working constantly to reduce this lead time.

Regarding the image element, yes we are releasing an upgrade (both for new units and existing customers). Redrock's adapter is the only one that is upgradeable, so as we release upgrades you will be able to get future versions without swapping out your entire adapter.

Goals.....
The least expensive FUNCTIONAL unit on your site is $850. Functional means "including a rods support and rods". The $500 basic unit is functional but due to weight and size is not practical (imo) and I did not see it anywhere mounted straight on a camcorder having all that weight (with any SLR lens on top of it) supported on the front lens of any camcorder, like Letus35. Please correct me if I am wrong and show us some pictures to support your statement.

I find your statement misleading Brian. Are you the spokesperson for all adapters from all companies? Do you know FOR FACT that other 35mm image converters out there do not offer upgrades? (some may not need, but that does not in any way mean that other options are or will not be available). I think you should rephrase your statement and limit it to what YOUR Company DOES and DOES NOT. If you have insight about the "others" please share it with us, but make sure you can PROVE your statements. (It could only improve the public image of your company while gaining TRUST from prospects, imo)

I agree with brian. In regards to the G35, which you can read on their forum, you can't necisarrily "easily" open up the G35 and change it. It's pretty much sealed end to end. With the Redrock Micro version you have the ability to open it up and adjust things, such as swapping out the image element, for different shooting styles and preferences. You can also go in there and clean the ground glass and swap out batteries if need be. The idea of upgrading, however, with the M2 sounds awesome, especially with the HVX200 coming. Since the M2 appears to be so flexible, it should be easy to move from the DVX100 to the HVX200.

And I don't mind at all your opinion. Not the slightest bit. But aside from the sealed G35 (you choose for your example), Letus35 was opened and cleaned by many, too many to ignore. I remember also Quyen was planning on adding a variable power supply. That looks like an upgrade to me. The GG could be changed just as well (as one customer did on his own). I am offering alternative screens for MPIC. The point of my previous post is in my third last sentence. I think is not an unfair request (regardless what you or anyone else would like to hear).

Dan has a point about Brian's statement.

(Everything else I can say concerning the Micro35 will have to wait until I get mine (seven weeks waiting). What I think really bugs me is not the long lead time, but the imprecise information. Because if I know it's going to tale 3 months, I can rest assured I spent my 900 dollars right. Now if it says 6 weeks, after the sixth week, I feel I've been forgotten and scammed. And when you consider it goes from 6 to I don't know, 12 weeks to some people, it really smells funky. )

But let's see the contestants:

One costs 10000 dollars!
The other still does not exist!
The other doesn't work with the DVX!
So, well, yeah, I guess the Micro is the only one that is upgradeable... (and also, the only one we can have!)

Cheers!

Thanks for the oppportunity to clarify

The micro35 is designed to be rod mounted but the Redrock rods are not required - people have used their own rods just fine. If you would like to be exact, the least functional version is $575 which includes the lens mount. Also with this approach, it can support big heavy lenses (like my 80-200 f2.8 nikon) without requiring anything more. For super heavy lenses (we have a customer in New Zealand shooting falcons with their 400mm lens) we have introduced an optional rod-mounted lens support.

Fair enough - to our knowledge we are the only upgradeable adapter - and I am now apparently corrected. Here's a tip for you Dan - you could simply say "my adapter is upgradeable too". It would make for less typing and frankly a less contentious discussion. Just a suggestion.

Regarding lead times, etc. we agree we could do better with more precise information. We are working to get an even shorter lead time and (hopefully soon) no lead time. We have shipped many many units worldwide - if you visit our customer forums you will see many people posting footage, providing tips, etc.

i know what you mean. im at week 11 and got an email today saying it will be another 10-15 biz days for delivery...which was what i was told 10 days ago. so best case is i do in fact get my adaptor in 3 weeks, which takes me up to week 14.

thats quite far off from the 4-6 weeks on their site. anyway...

They do actually ship. I was one of the early adopters and it did take awhile, but it actually did ship with everything as described on their site.

Thanks for the tip Brian. Your suggestion to me would have a lot more weight if you would have done just the same. (Redrock is upgradeable! period!) Fair enough?
I am not in all honesty the one looking for trouble or aimed to give you a hard time, but "so and so" statements just make me boil.

Here we go again!
How the hell can I access the "customer forum" if I am NOT A CUSTOMER???????????
I am not talking about the public area where I occasionally post a replay or two.
I am talking about CUSTOMER FORUM!
How can a prospect "VISIT" that area?
Why keep it PRIVATE? One should read UNCENSORED REVIEWS and CUSTOMER FB and believe in a product and a company BEFORE PAYING (imo)
According to your statement you shipped lots of units. There should be TONS of footage and FB. How come not much is P U B L I C??????????

I was asked over the last year for all sorts of tests (low light, resolution charts, I even sealed the first unit and gave it a bath for God sake). All public, all results posted on my site. I did all that…….

Dan -

I sure love you read your responses.

Let's just keep it simple: you want to call me on a semantic point re: "only upgradeable adapter", great. so noted.

You want to call me on another semantic point, great. I should have said "our forums" as in our forums are open to the public.

You've been there yourself. I have seen your posts. You can read any of over 7,500 other posts there including uncensored, unbiased input and feedback.

The "customer area" your are referring to is our customer support area, which is limited to Redrock customers to answer their support questions - no magic here.

I have to believe there is a better use of all our time than your opportunistic jabs Dan.

Ok, you guys are getting a bit worked up. We are all friends here :) Upgrade or no upgrade, what counts is the end result right? If your adapter produces the result of 35mm film, why would you need to "upgrade"? Call me silly.
