Waiting for my new DVX100... happy AND scared!

Hi,
Just ordered my brand new DVX100A "pal" with lots and lots of goodies! I'm so excited these days, you cant imagine. Dont know how to keep me busy during the wait.... It's like Christmas eve,- ten times :) one week left.... uhh

i have read every technical paper and spesifications and feel that I'm getting a bit familiar with the cam. But on the other side, getting knowledge about all this technical stuff is one thing, but doing the real deal the filmmaking is another.

Thats why I'm also at this time a bit "scared"... what if I'm not able of coming up with some kind of kreative ideas for movies!?!

So I would like to ask if someone might have some good ideas to share, like where to start, beginner guides to the world of filmmaking, maybe some good books about the subject etc. tips.... you name it.

Hope that my english is not too far out.... getting late:)

Go watch movies. If you want to do shorts, go watch shorts. Go to some film festivals. Read some books on movies. Rent and watch Project Greenlight. Watch some of the other 20 million movies about making movies. Get some books or do some online research about scriptwriting. If you don't want to write your own, find some friend that likes to write, or just go online and look for scripts. There are scripts out there that people will let you use for nothing or practically nothing. Do some documentary on something you care about.... [ got it yet? ] Unlimited opportunities, just do something and more will come after. You have to do the first one to do the second one. It doesn't matter.

Don't be afraid of the camera thats the best advice you can get. Just start filming as soon as you get it. You won't learn anything if you don't try.

Thanks for the replys. Yes I do watch a lot of movies, but not shorts and the reason is that i live in a small town where there is only one cinema, showing just the blockbusters. I recon there are some good resources on indiefilms on the net.

Very interesting idea to get some short scripts to practise with, generally I like the idea of dissecting a script to find out how it works. By my own experience this is could be a boost in the learning prosess.

Do you galt know any resources where i could find scripts?

Lots of new things to learn like scriptwriting, storyboards and so on. Thanks a lot for the feedback!

you should be scared... very very scared.... you that adreneline... cause once you got it... don't lose it... keep it.. then use to conquer... conquer the world..

it may be the drugs talking..or the 3 hours of sleep I think I got last night... but rock on..

wow... where the fffff are my pants..

Laffen, like everyone has said, just go out and film, even if there is no subject, practice cinematography, frame composition... everything.

You said you got a bunch of extra things to go along with your camera, what did you get?

Congrats on the cam Laffen. And DJ, you just denied him his official dvxuser rite of passage. You party pooper.

The clunk doesnt mean your camera is broken. Its just a small defect thatll ruin your lens over time.

... inn addition to the DVX100 I bought an extra large original battery, a Varizoom zoom controller, Patrol camera bag and Patrol rain cover (I live in a RAINY part of Norway, so that's a must :) ), I also bought some 30 Panasonic PQ tapes.

Nice! I need a rain cover for my cam... I think that's the next thing that's on my list of "need-to-get's"
