Waiting for dvx100b?

Is there any reason to wait for the next round of updates for the 100a? Is a 100b (or other) looming on the horizon? Is this product model stable at least until NAB 2006?
Before I purchase I would like to know if and when an updated release of this model is coming.
Thanks for any insight.

Unless someone comes in and contradicts me, the only difference between the A & B models is the material used on the circuit boards (lead-free in B model), and possibly some cosmetic changes.

That is what they are saying. It seems the rebate that they have now makes it worth buying now. I was told to,,no 16:9 on the next release.

I would seem that the rebate is to stimulate sales and help them sell as many 100a's as they can before the 100b's are released. I'd look for *SOMETHING* other than just a color change and lead-free parts. It'd be silly not to. 16:9 would be nice. My guess is that there WILL be something else added.

I suspect the rebate is more to counter would-be FX-1 buyers. The B model does not add any major new features AFAIK.

Okay, I've heard this topic enough. Here are the *possible* outcomes of the DVX100b:

1. Native 16:9 addition

2. Tweaked CCD's for better color/picture

3. Added picture options

4. P2 slots for tapeless recording

5. Different button layout/more buttons added

6. Rounder form factor a'la Canon GL1 to GL2 change

7. No changes at all except lead free

Okay? There you have it. More thank likely, as Jan has said a thousand times, number 7 is the only outcome of the DVX100b.

Jan has said that there will be a 100b, and that the only change that she's sure of is that it will be a redesigned manufacturing process to eliminate lead. I don't know that that means there won't be any other changes (although it seems very unlikely that it would include 16:9 CCDs or P2 recording, etc). I don't know if there are any other changes, or if there aren't... but I also don't know if there's been a definitive statement saying "no other changes will happen".

There were, after all, many changes made between the 100 and the 100A, about 26 changes in all (but none of anywhere near the magnitude of something like including 16:9 CCDs!) So there may be no changes other than eliminating lead, or there may be other changes... that all remains to be seen.

I believe the rebate does help people choose the DVX over the FX1, but I suspect the rebate is more of a "nuclear option" in the war against deceptive gray marketers.

i believe there was a message from jan that said something like "there are a few things i asked for but i'm not sure what will make it into the new model"

I think what I was trying to say was, "why have a 100b w/ 16x9 & p2, when you could just get a HVX." Yea maybe it'd be nice to have a 3 camera selection, but I think if you're getting a 100b for such features (16x9, etc.), you might as well go all out for an HVX.

Wouldn't be surprised if the B model had a so-called "16x9" CCD's, but that doesn't necessarily mean it would be better than A model, but it would be more competitive with the XL2... I doubt they're heading this direction, but I wouldn't put it past them either. I'm convinced Jan doesn't know either way, after all, not to downsize her position, but she is in marketing, not product design specifically. Her position is a gateway to the people who design the equipment and those folks don't appear to be saying much. Probably nothing much to say since they're working tirelessly on the camera we are really interested in. . . Although, a 16x9 PAL model DVX100B would be warmly welcomed in Europe, much more so than a HD model.. Of course, HVX200 offers both, but a Mini-DV only model 100B would be a good sale over there.. Just my thoughts.

"Yes, reservoir"

"Can, we please have a P2 slot on the DVX100B"

"Sure dear, anything for my favorite DVX member"

"Thanx aunt Jan"
