Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

I love pen pads!!

I think mine is an Intuos2?

saved my hands, wrists, career..I lose the pen every few hours, but I can't work without it.

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

I don't have any experience with WACOM, but I had an Intuos a few years back and it sort of stopped working after a while... I didn't miss it too much because I don't do graphics for a living, but I thought WACOM is pretty much the industry leader. If I had the need (and the money), I'd get one of their monitors that are also pen sensitive. I've seen some amazing stuff done with them.

Pooh -- was the small one worth it? Or.. um... is bigger better?

Jerry - Wacom makes both those models.

Thanks for the replies.

Was it not a separate company around 1997? Maybe Wacom bought them out? I don't remember...

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

I've got the small wacom tablet...Bought it three years ago just in case....And, it was on sale. It looks really cool on the desktop, but I've never used it. "Would the added junk with the Intuos (in-to-us?... REALLY!) make a world of difference?".

Mine is 8 inches by 8 inches, something like that. I think it is the "smaller". It does have the fancy features..pressurized tip, something like that..but I've only found it helpufl in drawing applications. if you draw, you need the fancy stuff. even using photoshop brushes is better with the fancier features. I love it for Final Cut also..when keyframing, it is a great tool. It was expensive, bur for something I use for several hours a day, it was totally worth it.

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

I have been using Wacom tablets for about the last 9 years. Earlier this year my old ARTzpad II gave out and I had to buy I new one. I knew that I wanted a 6x8, anything smaller is just cumbersom, and I basically had two choices. The Graphire3 or the Intuos2, both 6x8 (I wanted USB support). Well, the Intuos 2 is indeed a nice tablet, but unless you are actually painting in programs such as Corel Painter, the Graphire 3 will have everything you need, and for $100 less. I got my Graphire 3 6x8 at New Egg for $139. It doesn't have any hot keys like the Intuos, but it does everything I need it to, and pressure sensitivity is great.
Here is an example of a project that I have been working on that would have been impossible without the wacom tablet.

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

Captain . . . get an INTUOS and use it . . . dont give up at any forst attempts . .. I have used tablets for 12 years now and wont ever touch a mouse . . . small tablets are fine, I just have a big one cause I used acad so often in the past and needed a digitizer. I just use a small portion for regular stuff.

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

I have an Intuos 2 6x8 and I use it daily.

Wacom has updated the intuos to a newer model, so you might be able to find the platinum Intuos 2 on discount.

I had the graphire before, but I returned it for the intuos after a day of use. As people say, there is half the sensativity, but it also lacks tilt sensing and it's actually half as fast as the Intuos 2 in reaction time.

The 6x8 size has been perfect for me. It fits in most backpacks, covers a lap and offers a good bit of space without crowding a workspace.

Also, I've never had mine crap out, unless I'm workin on windows 2000 for some reason, and that's only on rare occasion.

Best toy I've ever bought.

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

Ive had the same $99 one for 4 years now its great. I do a lot of photoshop and illustrator work its the only way to get the most out of those 2 programs. Still, you should at least get one if you plan to use visual effects to your movies(Rotoscoping, tracking, precise keyframing, creating mattes for blue/green screen work, etc). Wacom tablet plus 10 minute lightsaber duel? No problem!!

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

I bought the Wacom Graphire 4x5 and LOVE it!!! Wow. So much more than what I thought it would be. I'm not super artistic, but I did manage to create my signature file below.

The size of it is just right for my budget and my desk. Anything bigger and I'd find my arm moving too much anyway.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: Wacom Help... Graphire or Intuos

unless you use it to paint backgrounds all day full time... you're not going to tell the difference. The pressure sensitivity is not noticable to most people. And even still, you can program the software to your pressure sensitivity, pen angle, and button presets. If anything, the pen feels different since the shape is much different, but other than that, functionalirt is still there.

I have the original Intuous 6x9 and it runs just as good as any other tablet out there. I even get by using the 4x3 graphire 2 at work. Also, no need to get too picky about size.

Everyone I know who has a tablet bigger than 6x9 resizes their tablet to a smaller proportional size... I do know a couple of people... literally 2 people. Who use the gigantor Tablets... but they do some serious hardcore 2K resolution backgrounds for features. They definitely need those brush stroke movements on the tablet.
