Wacky 3D DVX100's at N.A.B.

I know people spoke of this rig a while back so I'm sure we've all seen the web site, but I thought I'd take a couple shots of thier rig at N.A.B. today.
I wasn't impressed at all with the footage playing live on the Toshiba 3D laptop but they also had a video playing on a projector and when you put the 3d glasses on it looked really cool.

That's a bizarre contraption; and I'm with Pookie. 3D is like the lamest shite out there. I can't believe Cameron is working on some 3D project. What a waste.

I really want to do something in smell-o-vision.

That would be awesome.

I wouldn't poo-poo 3-D so quickly. The biggest draw back it seems to have had in the past is the accessories needed by the viewer for a somewhat limited effect. If somebody was able to create a good 3D camera and pair it with a decoder that would translate 3-D on an LCD panel for example, people would buy them up. Imagine watching a film like The Matrix or Star Wars with a real 3D image. Thin about those freaky 3D posters you had to stare at for a while to see the image. There must be some combination of optics and electronics that can achieve that without the headache and strange patterns. There was a time when the concept of sending an invisible signal through the air to a box in your house that would show you moving images would have been considered nuts. (Not to mention the idea of video that didn't look like video) IMHO, it's just a matter of time.

yeah mino, it totaly looks like j5...

i heard will smith is gunning to play johnny 5 in a remake of short circuit

Vegas (Las) has s ome 3D effects that are actually pretty cool. This technology will ultimately be improved. Can you see yourself wearing some HD eyeglasses that give the full 2-cam stereo effect an inch from your eyeball? Five years max. Who needs a TV? Gimme an iPod and some glasses.

That, and the helicopter. It took almost five hundred years from the original concept (Leonardo da Vinci, not counting the Chinese toys dating back as far as 400BC) for the first controllable aircraft (1936 in Germany?).

The first models looked ridiculous, if you ask me:

Far cry from today:

I personally think that a smooth, not headache-inducing 3D is right around the corner (ten years is but a blink of the eye in history). My wife has done a lot of holography, and while it's not for general consumption (yet), the ability to see object's depth never stops to fascinate me.

Waste of time? Hardly.

like the terminator ride at universal

Agreed! That was my coolest 3D experience to date. Especially with the moving seats, wind, water/mist. That's the only time I instinctively reacted (jumped) to something my 'mind' knew was fake. Really cool 3D ride.

Complete attack on the sences, we were all thinking it was going to be some goofy amusement park ride and we came out like DAMN!

Well as I said in the original post, The live signal on the 3d laptop looked pretty lame, but the video shot with the camera and projected in the booth looked very good. You had to wear the active glasses but it was some of the best looking 3d stuff I've seen.
