WA Adapters

I'm considering getting a wide angle converter.

The Century Optics .6x looks to fit the bill. From the CO web site:

"It allows partial zooming up to mid-range while in Auto Focus (loses focus beyond 5X). The resulting focal length is 2.7-13.5mm with a 84°-21° horizontal angle of view)."

Will the lens focus at all beyond the mid-range? I will not be using auto focus or zooming.

Thanks!

Re: WA Adapters

I've got that lens. It's pretty good, and quite wide, but you have to respect its limitations. You can get a reasonably sharp picture up to about Z55. After that, EVERYTHING goes out of focus. You cannot get anything in focus whatsoever.

There are three wide angle lenses out there, and it's frustrating to choose between them. The C.O. .6x is the least expensive, and the widest, and the most limited. The Panasonic is not much more, and no zoom limitations at all, but it's only a .8. The Century .7x seems like the best of the bunch, at .7 it's almost as wide as the .6, yet it's full zoom-through. But, of course, it's more than double the price!

I finally decided on the .6x because I figured that if I wanted wide, I wanted WIDE, so the limitation on not zooming through wouldn't be a problem. And at wide, it's great -- it really is wide. But I wish it was zoom-thru. If i had it to do over again, I *might* go for the more expensive .7x.

Thanks for your thoughts and for the link. The pictures really do spell it out for me.

I am leaning towards the .6x even more now. I plan to crop or crop and stretch for 16x9. I think the .6x will go a long way in creating the illusion of widescreen.

Thanks again,
Sam
