VVegas® Movie Studio+DVD Platinum

Hey all.. does everyone here use the high-end Prodcution suite? or does anyone use the Vegas® Movie Studio+DVD Platinum package?

Just currious... I was looking at the comparisons of the two, and it almost looked like although the lower end package doesn't give the 5.1 surround support, etc... it seemd it did have more bonus stuff like (sound effects packages, and stuff)
And most likely does not give the proffesional options of video editing/correction. (and also has up to 4 tracks vs. unlimited... however, I'm not sure if I'll ever need to layer more than 4 video tracks)

Any rate... I"m using HD footage with the HC1 and most likely sticking with 30fps. (the whole 24p thing isn't really a concern for me at this point).

I'm currently playing around with the demo of Vegas6, and captured some HD footage from the camera, but the trial version does not let me import MPG video into the timeline, which ofcoarse, is the format it captures the HD in... (unless i'm missing something). So basically I'm at the point where into to crack in to this HD stuff, I need to purchase one package or the other.

The camera has dented the wallet, so I'm leaning towards the cheaper (joe consumer friendly i take it), package, unless someone thinks this would not be a good choice. (Using the camera on a hobby level, filming family events, vacations, possibly fun short films with friends, and creating DVD's... when the time/technologie arrives, outputing to HD-DVD)

Thanks,

j

James,

I started editing with Video Factory (then Vegas’ little brother) which has now grown into Vegas Movie Studio. Don’t even think twice about buying Vegas Movie Studio. It is an outstanding product for what you want to do. In fact, I can’t believe how much Vegas functionality they have added to the Platinum release. I now use Vegas but I have played around with the demo of Vegas Movie Studio and all I kept saying to myself is, "wow, I can’t believe they added all this function to this product!"

If you want to capture some footage, you can always put your camera in DV downconvert mode and capture as a DV Widescreen AVI file. (I believe the HC1 can do this) The picture (while not HD) will still be astounding and it will allow you to play with the demo more. Sony also offers an upgrade price from Movie Studio to the full Vegas so don’t worry your investment in money and more importantly, your investment in skills will be well protected because Vegas and Vegas Movie Studio share the same interface.

Like I said, this is a no brainer. Don’t even think about it. Buy Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum and start having some fun. You will be extremely impressed with what it can do.

Cool... thanks jr.

Your right about the DV editing though... it wasn't till 'after' I posted that msg, that I remember that the HC1 also has the option to output the footage as DV. So I could play around with that... however I didn't know about that upgrading option. I think for now, I'll get the lower package and see how that fairs out. I'm sure for my purposes it'll be great.

On a side note, I was having troubles importing HD video into Vegas 6.0b... then I ended up updating it to 6.0c, and worked fine, so I'm glad Sony is ironing out issues with their product.

You'll LOVE Platinum for the price. FWIW, JR didn't mention he co-wrote a book on Vegas Movie Studio....and you can search the VASST site for the VMSP project files, just type "Movie Studio" into the search box, you'll find them right away.

Just finished messing around with the Platinum demo (imported footage as DV), and am really liking it.

When I was trying to capture stuff form HD, the controlls in VEGAS would control the tape/camera... however the video window remained blue at all times... just wondering if anyone knows if this is a feature that will unlock when I purchase program (if I will be able to view what I'm capturing in the VEGAS capture window... and not just on my cameras viewer)

Thanks for the references on that 'VASST/VMSP project files' Spot.

This will unlock with purchase of the app. The demo can't do MPEG anything, because that would require Sony to pay for an MPEG license. They don't like paying license fees for demo's that might not get bought. :-)

Will this version (vegas movie studio) handle all possible outputs from the dvx100, including 24pa or do you need vegas 6 to do that? I am wondering as I cannot find anything definitive on this and an ad for sony on this site opened up to this vegas movie studio version. If this will work it will definitely be cheaper than the vegas 6 version.

VMS does not support a 24p timeline, as far as I know.

Is this correct? If so, is there any way to easily convert 24p footage for use in Vegas Movie Studio Platinum while still maintaining image quality?
