Voice Over

I built a good-sized pentagonal booth in my project studio last year, 4 total layers of drywall, Pergo floor, tons of Auralex and a wireless DAW controller. Works great.
You want a good signal to noise ratio so I recommend getting a good quality solid-state preamp like the FMR RNP and a good condenser mic. I personally use an AT 4050 for most things. I also have an RE20 but as it's a dynamic mic you have to give it a good deal of gain, increasing your noise floor. Also, the type of AD/DA converters (in a computer audio interface) affect your bottom line quality-wise as well.

U47, or U87 *WITH* (& this is key) an original (not a re-issue) LA2a compressor to put "hair" on the mic.

You MUST have a golden throat VO too!

I have, on occasion used my 416. Works fairly well for that sound, but the big diaphram condensors are the ticket. As one VO once described a guy I've worked w/ quite a bit (Kevin Pierce) "he sounds like he could melt the eyebrows right off your face!" :D
