Voice Over Project

I need to do a voice over sample project for my company. Of course I am trying to shoe-string the whole project by first putting together a small presentation with me narrating over the video files and pictures.

I have the following equipment to work with DVX, Senn. wireless mic set, A4073A mic, CS2 (adobe). I was thinking of capturing my voice in Premiere and editing it in Audition afterward or if I can do it straight into Adobe Audition it be great.

So my question is: Would capturing straight into my NLE system with the toys mentioned above be ok or will the quality be so-so.

You haven't mentioned what type of computer you have, or what type of sound card it has, but unless you've upgraded it, most stock sound cards are not up to snuff for that type of recording. From that perspective, you should record into the camera and then capture it (yes, I know this adds a extra step, but you will get better sound).

Second, you really don't have a microphone that will work for VO work. The wireless might work if you've upgraded the stock lav to either a Countryman B6 or a Sanken COS-11 (preferably the later). Your best options would be a large diaphragm mic like the AT-4040, or a more versatile option would be a hyper like the Octava. The 4073 is not a good VO mic.

Hi,

I use a UA-25 Edirol box with Sound Forge and a Shure SM10A mic for VO work (Audition should work well, too).

Like hand grenades, proximity is important. Noisy things close to the microphone will be noisy on your track. Hissy sibilants will sound pop and spit, so naturally, be careful and rehearse your script.

Good luck.

Sorry for the late reply post and thanks. I ended for now getting an M-Audio Premobile for $150. I got a pop filter to put in front of the mic and I am trying to (DIY) sound booth box for the mic to put inside, with the only opening facing the person (who is speaking). I tested it out and I was able to reduce the noise in Adobe audition and it wasn't that bad. I also picked up a Sony 7506 headphone while I was at it. All in all I spent about $350 for the box, small table mic stand, pop filter, headphones and foam. I still need to pick up a portable container ($20) of sort to line the acoustic foam. Hopefully this will hld me over for now. I am using an HP 8620 Media Center Intel Duo Core 2.13 GHZ, with 4GB of Ram. I think the sound card is Real Tek HD.
