Hey Guys,

I am trying to use a VOB file, from a DVD, and PCS3 is giving me an incompatable file error message. Any suggestions? to I need to convert the file?
and what would I use to do so?
Thanks

thanks, i changed the file extension to .mpg and still no go. I am just changing the extension, I am working in Windows mind you, I am opening up the file and just renaming, is this the correct proceedure?

Yes, all you have to do is change the extension from .vob to .mpg.

I have just recently learned to do this myself. However, when I brought the new .mpg files into PP CS3, I discovered the audio assosciated with the clips wasn't included. I had to run the DVD through DVD Decrypter (available free online) to rip the DVD to my HDD, then change the .vob to .mpg.

These clips had the audio attached.

Yet another reason why I dislike CS3. In PP2.0 I just copy the .vob from the DVD to the hard drive and change the extension. Then it imports just fine.

Try this for the audio problem.

Open up the Encore CS3 Folder

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Encore CS3

copy the following file: ad2ac3dec.dll

now go to the Premiere folder

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS3

paste that file in the main folder.

Note: premiere didn't come pre loaded with the AC3 audio decoder, but encore did. Should now work with the above .vob to .mpg extension change and with vob's that are using AC3 audio.

thank you all who responded to this, I just used DVD dectypter to convert the file and it went into PCS3 with no problem.
