Vivitar lens for Nikon.

Why are the Vivitar lenses so much cheaper? Bad optics? stiff lens? Is it an okay lens?
 
Not as big a name brand as Canon or Nikon. And the optics depends on which lens you buy and which version. In the case of the Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm f3.5 Macro that I bought to use with my Letus35 FE, the optics are among the best. Check out this article http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm. I have version 1.
