I'm in need of some info on what I would need to start shooting virtual tours. I already have a Canon Rebel and I know that I need to get one of those 360 degree lenses but I was wondering if there is any other equipment or software that I will need? any advice is appriceated, I'm not much of a still photographer.

There is no such thing as a 360 degree viewable lens (actually there is but its not a photographic lens) The most you cna get is a fisheye 180 degree lens but there is way way to much exxagerated perspective with a lens like that. What you need a wide angle lens (18mm-24mm) and take multiple photos while on a tripod. The software you get will stitch the photos together to form a VR tour. Make sure that your exposure is on manual mode and not automatic or the photos will adjust in exposure as you are shooting and make it more difficult for the software ot stitch the photos together.

haha, I stand corrected. Thats acutally quit interesting. I doubt it performs to the standards of a normal photographic lens (its a specialty lens) Also It appears that you would loose a lot of resolution since the aspect ratio of the photo is really wide. Anybody seen something like this?

Interesting find, but technically it is not a 360 degree lens. It looks like it is reflecting for 360 degrees but it is technically not a 360 degree lens in itself (the angle is 117 according to manf but reflects off the mirror to 360).

Very interesting concept, but I would much prefer to just get a good tripod and a 12mm lens and shoot and stitch...

This lens doesn't interest me but it is an interesting find.

thanks for the info, I was a little skeptical about it because it works off of a reflection.
I've never worked on photo stitching before so I thought this might be the easiest method for me. Although, I'm thinking now that a wide angle lens may be the way to go as I can use the lens for other applications as well. Thanks for the info and advice! Are there any easy apps out there that can do stitching or should I just use PS?

Not to mention that I'm assuming there is some software that is making it look normal. You know who strange that photo would look right off the camera!?!?!
