Vista Issues

Hey Everyone,

I just bought a brand new laptop and guess what...it's vista ready.

So I installed vegas and here is what I am running into.

Working with AVI files works fine, it's fast and beautiful, however, whenever I try to work with a quicktime file I get the following message:

"An error has occured during the current operation."
"An exception has occured."

And that is about it. Vegas shuts down and I can't do anything with the quicktime files. Does anyone know a workaround for this? Besides installing XP.

I'm really liking parts of Vista, and would like to keep it.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Well, I just updated from the newest version they had posted, so I would assume that all is well. Quicktime seems to work fine outside of vegas.

I'll check just in case.

I bought a new Dell laptop about 3 weeks ago. It came with Vista and it's been nothing but trouble. I'm going to go back to XP. Vista has been a nightmare, and not just running Vegas. Even simple things like using my little flash drive. It won't work. It sucks, I hate it.

Well,

I just tried to pull a quicktime file into after effects and it didn't work either, so I think you're right, we're dealing with a quicktime problem.

Quicktime alternative is just another quicktime player. You can't encode in "alternative."

It wouldn't help you.

Thanks Bball, I just tried it, still not working.....I think I might set up a partition of my hard drive and just load XP onto it.

Vista has some nice new options but I'm wondering if it's really worth it yet.

Too bad they already are shipping out laptops such as this with Vista loaded.

Nice. I left feedback, hopefully Apple will have a new version within the next couple of weeks. But in the meantime, I can't use any of my Digital Juice stuff because all of the source files are in quicktime....and I was really hoping to use those new swipes on my laptop.

Well, as a nice workaround I decided to download the trial of Parallel's workstation and put a copy of XP on it as a virtual machine....we'll see how it turns out.
