Visiting Germany in June and July

Drew Ott

Wish I were banned.
Hey all,

I'll be in Germany by myself traveling around with no plans in late June and early July, a few weeks total. Would anybody like to meet up?

Also, any suggestions on what to check out? I'm not super keen on typical "must see" places, but I'd love to visit landmarks related to German cinema or German philosophy-- if such places exist.

all i know if there is a landmark related to heidegger it would most certainly be a labyrinth. and it would be like the most complex labyrinth in the world. signs give you directions on how to get out, but you have no idea what the signs are saying because the words are on signs were invented by heidegger. and the more you read the signs, the more lost you become.

Will you be coming to Berlin? Then there's Babelsberg, pretty decent "landmark" in German cinema!
give me a shout if you're in town!

Does Babelsberg have a 'tour' program... or does one have to know someone to get a personal tour?

I've been trying to get the Wife to go on a trip, starting in Berlin, train to Leipzig, Prague, and Vienna. But alas... no luck to date.

Don't know about cinema and philosophy... but Das Deutsche Museum in Munich is a major Science and Tech museum. I've been there twice, and not seen all the exhibits... Munich was also figures large german filmmaking, and there's Bavaria Film, which has some history behind it.

Babelsberg has some sort of tour program. I'm not sure of the details as I'm yet to go myself! Definitely planning to do that this summer!
I'll try to find out more!

Berlin also has a series of great museums, Egyptian Museum (that holds the bust of nefertiti), the Pergamon Museum and obviously lots about the Berlin Wall and the Checkpoint Charlie museum. And Glienicke Brücke (Bridge of Spies) which I guess is the inspiration for the new film Bridge of Spies coming out shortly...

Thanks for the suggestions!

wi-fi is spotty here in Croatia, but I'll follow up when I'm in Germany
