Hello,

I've been approached by a couple to shoot their wedding in Calgary. I've heard stories from people in other fields who have been hired to do work in Canada and got into some trouble for not setting up the proper work visas in advance. Anyone have any experience with this and know what the process/cost is to get a visa?

Thanks!

typically, a work visa is only given out to an individual who won't be taking a job away from a canadian resident or citizen. i'm pretty sure you won't get a work visa to shoot a wedding in canada.

i would recommend just getting a visitor visa and an invite to attend the wedding, then film it.

why do you need a work visa exactly?

Hi Flambe,

I've spoken with other videographers who got stopped in customs when the customs officials become suspicious, after seeing all the camera gear, that you are entering the country to work. It would be a pretty poor situation to get stopped in customs and then leave the bride and groom with no one to film their wedding.

I'd say dont take jobs from us Canadians... but I don't give a dam and a gig is just a gig. Just say you want to shoot some pretty pictures of cows.
